Our Superintendent Reverend James Naughtin Dear Graduates of 1959: A young convert recently remarked to me: One thing happily astonished me throughout my instructions and it has continued to amaze me very wonderfully during these two years of my Catholic hfe and that is the tremendous emphasis the Catholic Church places on the care and salva ' tion of a soul. So fundamental a thesis, is, for the convert, a constant source of wonderful amaze ' ment. In his brief statement, he simply states exactly the very purpose of the existence of the Cathohc Church — which purpose we know so well. Her schools, as an integral part of the Church, have that sole purpose of existence also. Seniors, if you leave Central Catholic with one thought alone namely, If I follow the di ' rectives of the Catholic Church, confirmed in me through my Catholic education, then, indeed, will my salvation be assured, then our efforts for you and your efforts for yourselves at Central Cath ' olic will not have been in vain. Remember always: You cannot go to HeU if you do what the Ca ' tholic Church tells you. May the guiding hand and protective mantle of Mary, your Star on your Sea of Life aid you in accomplishing this, and may God ' s Richest Blessings be upon all of you in the years ahead. Faculty As the Mans Stella sails on the seas, her course is steered by the captains — the Faculty. In order to avoid any shipwrecks, they sail out under the banner of Mary, Star of the Sea. As we seniors bid farewell to our teachers, classmates, and fnends we breathe a prayer of thanks for the happy, profitable years spent at Central Catholic High under the guidance of the Faculty. Pope Honors Our Clergy His Holiness, Pope John XXIII, has bestowed Papal honors on Reverend Anthony Egging and Reverend Carl Hayden. Named Domestic Prelate with the title Right Reverend Monsignor is Father Anthony Egging, pastor of the Blessed Sacrament Parish and Diocesan Superintendent of schools. Father Carl Hayden, Chancellor of the diocese and instructor at Central Catholic High, is named a Papal Chamberlain with the title Very Reverend Monsignor.
