An-any Claims 5 Dermer Rate Individual ability combined this year to produce the balance and team unity that carried Central's basketball team tothe Sec- tional Championship. Several players were potential stars in themselves, but this status they sacrificed in order to make it a team effort. The Irish opened the season with some- thing to prove. Unfriendly sports writersfore- casted an average season and labeled Cen- tral the underdog throughout. But time s All-State Honors proved them wrong - with time came vic- tories. Even the temporary loss of a starter due to injury did not stop the team. This, an 18 - 2 record, and the fact that all five starters received mention on the BLADES Coaches' All-City team, confirmed Coach Pete Bendicts pre-season prediction thatCen- tral's balance was not to be ignored. The final loss to Libbey in the District Tournament ended any hopes of a state title, but the Irish had made their point.
