Drag, Prom 'Spice Up' Social Scene VARMTY DRAG Silver Sleigh Bells jingled throughout Sylvan Hall the evening of December 30 as the annual Varsity Drag was held. The dance, a senior project, was under the direction of chairmen David Ember and Bernita Borer. Sr. Mary de Paul SND, Senior Class advisor, aided the various committees in mak- ing preparations for the event. Musical moments for the semi-formal affair were provided by the Don Lee Orchestra and Nobody's Children, a group of college singers. Admiring the floor decorations at the Varsity Drag are Janet Witko and Doug Lightner, her date from Miami University. Centerpieces such as the coin fountain heiped create the prop- er atmosphere to make this year's Christmas dance an out- standing success. Page 15 PROM Enchanting Emerald Isle was the theme of the Junior-Senior Prom held May 9 at the new Masonic Temple. Juniors, aided by class moderator Mrs. Dor- othy Brown, sponsored this formal affair. Co- chairmen Vickie O'Connor and Joseph Wernert worked long hours to achieve perfection. The Johnny Knorr Orchestra enlivened the dance with renditions of favorite musical tunes. Students received hints about what to wear from watching the Prom Preview.

'lnherit The Wind' Exhibits Talent Tense courtroom atmosphere invaded the auditorium as Central presented its annual senior play, inherit The Wind, November 15, 16, and 17. This comedy-drama was based on the true story of a schoolteacher who was put on trial during the early 1900's for teaching the prin- ciples of the theory of evolution to his pupils. William Conklin portrayed the prosecuting attorney, Matthew Harrison Brady. James Wright depicted the lawyer for the defense, Henry Drummond. Richard Fournier assumed the character of Bertram Cates, the school- teacher, while Mary Jane Demski was his girlfriend, Rachel Brown. Ann lVlcCarty enacted the part of the dutiful and patient wife of the overbearing lVlr. Brady. Under the guidance of Edward Nlical, members of the stage crew exerted time and effort to construct the various Sets needed for the production. Scenic artists, directed by Suzanne Sobel, devoted long hours after school in order to make the presentation a memorable one. luv Bertram Cates contemplates the information given him by Henry Drum- mond on his right to appeal. Rachel Brown cautiously waits for a sign of Bertram 's decision to defend his beliefs. Reverend Jeremiah Brown lJames Rozekl registers sur- prise when E. K. Hornbeck lTirnothy Kitzl announces that Henry Drummond will be the defense attorney. An elated Pat Murnen beams proudly over his date's popularity with those who attended the dance. A jubilant foursome composed of Marcus Page, Dianne Wein' er, Carol Sido, and Joe Carono toast to the success of the Junior-Senior Prom.
