'lnherit The Wind' Exhibits Talent Tense courtroom atmosphere invaded the auditorium as Central presented its annual senior play, inherit The Wind, November 15, 16, and 17. This comedy-drama was based on the true story of a schoolteacher who was put on trial during the early 1900's for teaching the prin- ciples of the theory of evolution to his pupils. William Conklin portrayed the prosecuting attorney, Matthew Harrison Brady. James Wright depicted the lawyer for the defense, Henry Drummond. Richard Fournier assumed the character of Bertram Cates, the school- teacher, while Mary Jane Demski was his girlfriend, Rachel Brown. Ann lVlcCarty enacted the part of the dutiful and patient wife of the overbearing lVlr. Brady. Under the guidance of Edward Nlical, members of the stage crew exerted time and effort to construct the various Sets needed for the production. Scenic artists, directed by Suzanne Sobel, devoted long hours after school in order to make the presentation a memorable one. luv Bertram Cates contemplates the information given him by Henry Drum- mond on his right to appeal. Rachel Brown cautiously waits for a sign of Bertram 's decision to defend his beliefs. Reverend Jeremiah Brown lJames Rozekl registers sur- prise when E. K.
