Page 4 Dedication From its conception as Cathedral High to its birth as Central Catholic High on Page and Cherry Streets and finally to its maturity at its present location, Central has always been deeply indebted to the Sisters who have given so much of life, devotion and energy to the betterment of this school. When Central opened its doors in 1920, seven Ursuline, one Sylvania Franciscan, and two Notre Dame Sisters were present to guide the youth of yesteryear toward their chosen careers. 1921 found the Mercy Sisters enrolled on the faculty roster and in 1929 two more orders-the Tifiin Franciscans and the Joliet Franciscan Sisters joined the staff to help guide Central through the days of the depression and World War ll. v With the close of World War ll, a new wing dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in the war, was added to the school and, consequently, more Sisters were called upon to constitute the ever growing teaching staff. With the coming of the Grey Nuns in 1953 and the Felician Sisters in 1955, Central's faculty roll composed of fifty-tive Religious Sisters reached an all time high. Some of the Sisters, once teaching on our faculty, have been called to their eternal reward while others have entered new fields. Though they are no longer at Central, their zeal and loyalty still echo through the halls, setting forth a tradition that has been accepted and followed by all those Sisters who taught and are still instructing Centra1's student body. It is with gratitude that we dedicate this, The 1956 Centripetal, to all the Sisters of Central Catholic High.
