Page 4 Dedication During the past year Pope Pius XII recognized the sterling character and outstanding accomplishments of Centra1's prin- cipal, Very Rev. John L. Harrington, and elevated him to the rank of Monsignor. In his eighteen years at Central, fourteen of which he has been principal, Monsignor has taken an active interest in all scholastic, spiritual, and extra-curricular activities of the school. A native Toledoan, Monsignor received his elementary edu- cation in Good Shepherd grade school, attended St. Charles' High School and College, Catonville, Maryland, and St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Where he received his A.B. degree. He was ordained by Bishop Alter in 1932. Preceding his ordination he received his S.T.B. and M.A. degrees from the Catholic Univer- sity at Washington, D.C. His first appointment was to Cathedral CChapelj parish as assistant pastor where he remained until he replaced the Rev. Edward J. Mattimore as assistant principal at Central in 1937. Monsignor succeeded the late Very Rev. R. G. Kirsch as principal, August 22, 1941, and has continued to serve in that capacity. Realizing that an addition to Central would provide opportunities for a Catholic education to a greater number of students, he inaugurated the construction of the new Memorial Wing in 1948. As students who have profited by this enlargement the senior class, in sincere appreciation for his thoughtfulness and guidance, dedicate this, the 1955 Centripetal to Monsignor John L. Harrington.
