The tongue of the ancient Romans is offered to the student body as a four year course. During the first year, students are taught the basic principles of vocabulary and grammatical rules. Those partaking in second year Latin, master the more difficult con- structions Which enable them to translate Caesar's Gallic Wars. Centralites who seek a more thorough knowledge of this language study the orations of Cicero during the third year. Senior enthusiasts are able to engage in conversational Latin, as well as translate Virgil's Aeneid and the encyclicals of His Holiness, Pope Leo XIII. The study of Latin produces in young men and Women an understanding of eccle- siastical Latin, thus permitting them to better appreciate the Various liturgical prayers of the Church. Page 27
