The school was constructed only seven years ago in 1928, and is one of the most up to date school buildings in Toledo. It has a faculty of forty instructors and offers a program of studies including the following curricula: Academic, Scientific, Commercial, Teaching, Art, Drafting and Home Economics. The school owes its beginning and continued existence to the generosity of the thirty Catholic parishes of the city. 8 Where God holds Court.a11 through the day And students come their homage to pay. 9 Empty now, but not for long. ORGANIZATICNS Sodality The most important society at Central is the Sodality of our Blessed Lady to which every student belongs. It was organized for the purpose of promoting the spiritual welfare of the student body. The annual Sodality Mass was held in the Queen of the Holy Rosary Cathedral, December 8. This Mass was attended by Sodalists from all the Catholic High Schools and Colleges of the city. The annual May Convocation was held on the school campus, Sunday, May 26, at which faculty and students united in prayer for the success of the Summer Festival. With the Rev. Raymond F. Gorman, as Faculty Moderator, the Sodality was headed by John Eberly, prefect, Rita Shaughnessy, vice-prefect, Lillian Miller, secretary, and Gerald Boyer, sergeant-at-arms. St. Vincent De Paul The Christ the King junior Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the only Junior Confer- ence in the Diocese. This is the second year of its existence at Central. The Conference has gathered and distributed over 10,000 magazines and newspapers to the various chari- table institutions and collected and delivered clothing to needy families. At Christmas, the Society solicited baskets. Sixty- two were taken to poor families by members of this group. In May, these boys sponsored a breakfast at the quarterly meeting of the Particular Council of Toledo which was the biggest activity the Junior Council has undertaken. Father Kirsch is spiritual adviser and Mr. Valentine Fischer is moderator. OPricers are Leonard Lenga, presi- dent, Leon Picard, vice-president, Stephen Adamczewski, treasurer, Gerald Geolfrion, secretary, Douglas Keller, assistant treasurer. St. Hilda's Guild This society, which was organized six years ago, for the purpose of caring for the altar and the sacristy, has been an active one during the past year. It is the girls of this club who have cared for the candles and linens and have seen that the vestments were in good condition. The following are members of this organization: Rita Trawinski, Mary Hoeffel, Rita O'Brien, Ruth Eberly, joan Naber, Ethelyn Patton, Ursula Koeniger, Anna Rita Naber, Agnes Hickey, Bernadine Haas, Ursula Yost, Betty Jane Noon, Lavera Scherack, Angela Farkas, Virginia Holley, Mary Ann Langenderfer, Mary Schnapp, Mary Herbert, Frances Pfaff, Margaret Willin- get, Ruth Lauber, Virginia Babione. 54 Nuntius Romanus During the past few years the Vergilian Club has stead- ily been enlarging its field of activities, until it is one of the most outstanding groups of the school. It now numbers among its major undertakings the editing of the Nzmtiuf Romanm, the awarding of monograms and the presenting of the Latin play. This organization is a rather exclusive one, in as much as the membership is confined only to students of the fourth year Latin classes who can speak Latin. Its primary purpose is to in- crease the fluency of the members. This is done by discussing and conversing always solely in Latin dur- ing class session. This year, the Vergilians presented the fourth annual Latin play. Reverend Ray- mond F. Gorman, Head of the Latin department has written and produced these plays. Besides the perform- ance in Toledo, the plays are shown in various schools in the surrounding cities. Vergilians are Catherine Geiger, Margaret Walker, Anna Willinger, Marie Schwartz, Margaret Walen- tick, Stephen Adamczewski, Leon Picard, Richard Dick- man, Douglas Keller, Rich- ard Bush, Richard Dickman, Richard Rosenfelder, Ed- ward Keenan, and Lloyd Grover. Library Club The Library Club was or- ganized two years ago under the name Lit-O-Litesf' Members of the club are the girls who assist Sister M. Anthony, librarian, in the work of circulation and in keeping the library in good order. Mtusrs-Manrius-a - t ..., 1 .. ' xngzia-nam' ,,..,.-1 ,.W:1ugv?,,,uw - ... .,..... 'N ff?Vx.nv'sx1 . With a sigh of relief, twenty-four staff members, not to mention faculty advisers, lay down their pencils and pens. However, though the work is difficult it is pleasant and the Harvest will be great. It has been the aim of the staff, this year as in other years, to produce the most attractive annual at the minimum cost. The editorial staff has tried to make the printed page as interesting as the pictures. Bernard Kaminski, as editor-in-chief assisted by Stephen Adamczewski, associate editor, heads the entire staff. The senior section was taken care of by Patricia Howard and Virginia Todd. The task of describing hard- fought games fell to the lot of William O'Loughlin and Francis Ringenbach, boys sports' editors, while Antoinette McVicker was in charge of the girls' sports. Other members of the editorial staff were Virginia Coyle and Mary Eileen Navarre, organi- zations editors, Lillian Miller, calendar editor, and Mary Ann Langenderfer, copy editor. The art staff, consisted of Benjamin Morrin and Ursula Yost, art editors, Berna- dine Haas, photography editor, Paul Allen, activities editor, and Virginia Holley and Francis Fischbach, underclass editors. The entire work of the photography and planning of the cuts and plates rested upon this staff, and work began in February when senior pictures were taken. The business staff was under the management of john Eberly, and Andrew Szemetko, his assistant. Fern Nissen and Bernard Graham took care ofthe advertising of the yearbook. Jane Mullen, able circulation manager, was aided by Fasoh Geha, Marie Paszek and Daniel Katafiasz. Jeanette Aubry, office manager, Madelyn Noel and Monica LeDuc, typists, complete the staff. 56 ,JW Go-getters in the ad campaign Editor-in-chief in a. pensive mood That industrious art staff. This year, under the capable direction of Patricia Howard, editor-in-chief, the Centric has completediitswfiheenfhyearnas the combination news-source, editorial comment, comic sheet, and sports-final. Acting in the capacity of associate editors, Mary Ann Langenderfer and Stephen Adamczewski, did their utmost to make The Centric more interesting to its many readers. Although Jane Mullen was not a managing person and Marjorie Bertling never copied homework, they were managing editor and copy editor respectively. Harry Overberg, as the exchange editor, contributed bits of news concerning other schools. Breathless moments of hard-fought games were vividly recounted by Bernard Kaminski and Francis Grubb, boys' sports editors. News of the activities of the girls' sports club was related by Corinne Myers. ' The staff writers included Paul Gaynor, john Horrigan, Edward Keenan, Arthur Teall, Bernadine Haas, Anna Willinger, Bettie Kramer and Richard Bush. Dorothy Christie and Rita Metty were the feature editors. Esther Sulier, as alumni editor, kept the school informed about the doings of past Central students. Margaret Walentick related the latest news of the classes. Bernard Schramm wrote the humor column which bore the clever name Schrammurmurs. Helen Drew and Lillian Rudnicki were the nimble-fingered typists. The business staff was headed by Douglas Keller, assisted by Madelyn Brighton. James Weisenburger and Virginia Holley took care of the advertising. Fern Nissen and Mary Ellen Finn managed the circulation, with the cooperation of Dorothy Aubry, David McPartland, Alice Andresky, Eugene Extine and John Dowling. The Council is a form of school government in which each Conference Room has a voice in the various problems and activities. It is like a magnet which draws students and teachers more closely together. Ways of making our school bigger and better are given weighty consideration and a spirit of harmony and cooperation has reigned throughout the organization. Prime among its achievements were the establishment of a plan by which Central students might be checked in their conduct on public conveyances, the Community Chest Drive, the corridor patrols, and a successful high school day at Sears, The principal purpose of this organization is to unify all student activities under one general control and to aid in developing in the student a spirit of responsibility. Each member acts as a representative of his or her conference group and reports news of the meetings to their respective rooms. These representatives also encourage their classmates to contribute to the activities of the organization and arouse enthu- siasm. b The Student Council ofhcers are: president, John Eberly, vice-president, Margaret Dunn, secretary, Jack Yates, and treasurer, Virginia O'Rourke. Conference room representatives include: Kathleen Keegan, John Dillon, Franklin Urban, Frances Dunigan, Margaret Dunn, Everett Wolfe, Gerald Boyer, John Hanley, Catherine Geiger, Norman Sulier, Roland Rowe, John Cooper, Lucille Burns, Eliza- beth McPartland, Marvin Paule, Catherine Ann Whitwham, Rosemary Lauer, Helen Jeanne Navarre, Fred Kendrick, Fred Zissler, Helen Mae Dickman, Jack Yates, Margaret Liggett, Marion Waugh, Marcella LaVergne, William McCarthy, and Robert Fournier. 60 The Captain . The Crew. The Midshipmen The Deck Hands The First Mate. ORCHESTRA Central is indeed fortunate in having a fine Orchestra directed by Mr. Sainton, who is numbered among the leading musicians of the city. At its concert, December 16, the Orchestra offered a varied and interesting program. Solo numbers were also presented by several of its members. Much praise was accorded the Orchestra for selections rendered at the Senior class play, Captain Applejacl-z. f In May this organization accompanied the Glee Club in the musical comedy, The Firefly. lt also participated MR. JOSEPH SAINTON Q in the May Festival and appeared frequently in Assemblies. Oflicers of the year were Elizabeth Schmitt, president, Bernard Kaminski, vice-president, John Horrigan, secretary, and Virginia Todd and Ernest Szemetko, librarians. GLEE CLUB During the past season our Glee Club directed by Mr. Joseph Sainton, fully illustrated its worth and accomplishments in the presentation of The Firefly, given May 5 and 6 wi-th orchestra accompaniment. The musical comedy was by no means the sole activity of this organization for it appeared in programs throughout the year. In the Central auditorium on May 22 the Glee Club sang selections at the May Festival. As a fitting climax to the year it will also appear at the closing of the campaign for Central Catholic High School, June 13. THE CENTRAL BAND No other organization began its activities as early in the school year as the Band whose stirring music spurred football and basketball teams on to victory. On the field, these scarlet and gray clad musicians were led by that high-stepping prancer, John Horrigan. But the Band did not play at games only. In its annual concert it showed its ability to render other kinds of music. It played at assemblies and appeared in the May Festival in the Central Auditorium. The Band has been indispensable, always adding a note of gaiety and color whenever they appeared. The year's officers were Francis Grubb, president, Anna Marie Krupp, vice- presidentg Rosella Meyer, secretary, Bernice Callahan, Ruth Durliat and Eileen Ruth, librarians. DRAMATIC CLUB This organization, under the direction of Miss Ida Talty, has just completed one of the most successful years in its history. On February 2 and 3, the senior class play, Captain Applejack, was presented before two crowded houses. Without doubt this production proved both a financial as well as an artistic success. The title role played by Benjamin Morrin was the highlight of the production. His mastery of the characters of Ambrose Applejohn and of Captain Applejack won the interest of the audience from beginning to end. Virginia Todd displayed exceptional ability as the charming Poppy Faire. The part of Anna Valeska, the Russian dancer was admirably displayed by Vivian Fehlen. Michael Rabbitt, as Ivan Borolsky, the Russian spy, was outstanding. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Pengard, two notorious crooks, as played by Jane Mullen and Andrew Szemetko deserve special mention, while Alois Trendel, as Lush, the butler, will long be remembered. Madelyn Brighton, playing the part of Aunt Agatha, deserves special commendation. Others in the cast included John Horrigan, as the business man, Johnny Jason, Francis Grubb, as Dennett, a policeman, Mary Kathryn Monroe, Bernard Kaminski, Jean Klueter, Margaret Dunn, Eugene Extine, Gerald Boyer, Dwight Liggett, Gilbert Nieholf, Everett Wolfe, Merlyn Welter, William Dunn, and Donald Wawrzyniak. In May, the Glee Club and Orchestra united their efforts to present the musical comedy, The Firefly which proved such a success that three presentations were necessary instead of the customary two. The music was directed by Mr, Joseph Sainton. Mary Frances Dunn, as Nina, The Firefly, shared the lead with Harry Holt, as Jack Travers, Geraldine's fiancee. Gerald Boyer, as Jenkins, the confidential secretary, kept the audience in perpetual laughter. John Thurston, Uncle to all the girls, was portrayed by Eugene Extine. The characters of Suzette, Geraldine's maid, and Pietro, Thurston's valet, were taken by Rita Shaughnessy and Michael Schmitt. ' Betty Jane Noon, Margaret Dunn and Alois Trendel had the diHicult roles of Mrs. Elaine VanDare, Geraldine, her niece, and Herr Franz, the choir master. Others who helped in the success of the production were Margaret Bishop, in the part of Sybil, Mrs. VanDare's daughter, Mary Kathryn Monroe, as Tony Colombo, a pickpocket, Andrew Szemetko, as Correlli, Nina's guardian, Angela Farkas, a flower vender, and Ernest Sanislo, captain of the yacht. MUENZER ALVIN J. SACKSTEDER Alvinj. Sacksteder, athletic director and coach, has come to be an integral part of Central and he would be sorely missed both amongst the faculty and the student body if he were to leave Central. He has during his stay here established a reputation for being honest and just, in his dealings with all the athletes and above all he has insisted upon fair play at all times regardless of the opponents' actions. Al, as he is known and called by most of the students, has an enviable record for a coach, handicapped though he is. For the past six years, Central, with the smallest student body and coaching staff in the city, has successfully competed with the other city teams, and fans have come to expect a good game wherever Central plays. This is due in a large part to the ability and leadership of Sacksteder in obtaining the cooperation and good will of the athletes. As long as Al remains with Central we are sure that the future students will enjoy the teams that represent Central in sports as well as we have enjoyed them. He is a real help to all boys and has a personality that demands respect and creates a friendship with all who come in contact with him. His is truly a big task which no one realizes better than those who have worked for him. May he remain at Central for years to come. John Connolly, a graduate of Notre Dame in 1932 came to Central two years ago to teach Public Speaking and assist Sacksteder in coaching football. From the very beginning his coaching ability has been noticed in the caliber of lightweight material sent up to the Varsity, many of whom have won positions in their first year. john brought with him from Notre Dame the same fighting spirit that is typical of his Alma Mater and instilled it in his charges. His personality has made itself felt everywhere and we hope that Central will have another oppor- tunity of having Mr. Connolly for a faculty member and assistant coach of football next year. Dr. Joseph A. Muenzer has completed his eleventh year as team physician and companion to the athletic teams of the school. Furthermore, he is com- pleting his eleventh year as friend of the school, not nominally, but actively. Far too lengthy, for the available space, would be even a summarization of Doc's value and activity in behalf of athletics, and other activities at Central. Out of a nine-game schedule Central ended the season with seven wins and two losses. The Fighting Irish opened the season with Delta. Their superior play showed to advantage and never once was there any doubt about the outcome of the game. Bondy led the scorers with three touchdowns while Reed, Hentges, Rabbitt, Gohlike, and Buehrer each collected one. All three varsity teams saw action with the first string on the bench most of the time. Scoree- Central 57, Delta 61 Central still untried traveled to Libbey to battle the Cowboys. The game was hard fought and exciting throughout, with Central superior in passing while Libbey captured the punting honors. Central in the first half failed to score, although within the shadow of the Libbey goal line. The second half opened and a few plays later Perz on an off-tackle play dodged his way through Libbey tacklers and ran 45 yards for the first touchdown. Czarnecki's try for point was wide. Libbey received the kickoff and started a drive which ended on the Central 12-yard line. A bad pass from center to Perz rolled behind the goal line where Perz fell upon it resulting in a safety, which made the score 6-2 in favor of Central. An intercepted pass in the fourth quarter started a drive which ended in another touchdown. The second string replaced the varsity and the game ended with the ball in their possession on Libbey's 45-yard line. Score-Central 12, Libbey 2. After downing Columbus East, Central turned to meet Cleveland Cathedral Latin. The Latineers came to Central with a large, rugged and fast team that had a reputation for being tough. Central scored first with the Bondy to Perz pass combination from the 12-yard line. After a sustained drive from Central's own 45-yard line, Corbett, Ringenbach and Bill Reed upheld the defense for Central while Sanislo, Czarnecki, Bondy and O'Loughlin with their aggressiveness kept Cleveland on their heels. Lady luck favored Central in the second half when after Palumbo scored once on an end run had three other potential touchdowns called back because of penalties. In the fourth quarter Bondy and Perz aided by perfect blocking and deception, completed one of their passes for the final touchdown of the game. Central really earned this victory and the boys deserved the praises that they received. Czarnecki did well. The final scoreiCentral 12, Latin 6. Confident that we could take Waite this year because of our success so far we encountered them in what decided the City Championship. The 15,000 fans who saw the game enjoyed the contest which ended 13-0 in favor of Waite. The entire team performed well and lived up to their reputation. Still stinging from the defeat of the week before the boys entertained Tiffin ,junior Order. A pass from Bondy to Perz from the twelve-yard line resulted in the first touchdown. Czarnecki converted from placement for the extra point. Tiffin seeking revenge took the ball to Central's 15-yard line where they were stopped when O'Loughlin intercepted a lateral pass and raced eighty-five yards to score. In the second half Tifiin showed their true worth and scored before Central could recover from their surprise. Central tightened its defense and held the TiHin boys scoreless for the rest of the game. Sanislo, Wawrzyniak, Corbett and O'Loughlin were outstanding on defense for Central while the backfield performed as usual. Central traveled to DeVilbiss the next Saturday and defeated the Tigers 13-6, in Page's Stadium. At the half the score stood G0 in favor of DeVilbiss and the Central rooters were visual- izing the second city defeat. A new Central eleven ran out on the field in the second half and proceeded to outplay the Tigers in every department of the game. They ran, kicked, passed and blocked nicely and before the third period was well under way the score stood Central 7, DeVilbiss 6. Central intercepted numerous Tiger passes and fumbles and graduallyvvorked toward the Orange and Black goal line for another score in the fourth period. Central continued to use the air lanes with a good deal of success gaining most of their yards by passing. Final score-Central 13, DeVilbiss 6. In their stride once more the Irish traveled to Scott stadium convinced that this year the traditions jinx would be broken. The first quarter saw the Central warriors march 88 yards by running plays to score, after an exchange of punts. Scott started to click on their running plays and the forward wall of Central had a difficult time stopping Brown, Nopper and Schuette. The half ended with Central leading 7e6. It seemed as though the team needed the intermission talk of Sacksteder before they showed their real worth. Both teams were improved, but Scott's powerful running attack wore the players out and by the end of the third quarter Scott added another touchdown to make the score 12-7 in favor of Scott. With four minutes left to play Central took time out to pray and talk up a good fighting spirit. The boys started from their own twenty-yard line with a forward lateral pass from Czarnecki to O'Loughlin to Bondy for a gain of 23 yards and a first down. Passes from Bondy and Perz to the ends and the backfield netted four more first downs. Within the shadow of Scott's goal line and going strong Bondy faded back on the famous 67 play and threw a long pass to Perz on the sidelines who ran across the line standing up. With Central determined to hold this one-point lead and Scott equally determined to score once more the fans saw the ball change hands frequently as a result of interceptions and recovered fumbles. Scott attempting to score via the air route gave Central a decided break. Brown of Scott being rushed by the entire forward wall of Central was forced to throw the ball right into the arms of Perz who galloped towards the goal line behind fine interference. Central rejoiced because the jinx was broken forever. Score-Central 20, Scott 12. With the last game of the season to play and a chance to tie for the City Championship, Central journeyed to Woodward field minus the services of their star halfback, Larry Bondy, who was injured in the Scott game. Bob Buehrer, substitute for Bondy, did fine work, as did Bill Reed, the team's quarterback and most dependable man. Woodward intercepted a Central pass on the Central 17-yard line in the fourth quarter and a few plays later Hiltman of Woodward threw a pass to Davis who ran over the goal line. Hiltman drop-kicked the extra point. Central started its lastiminute rally and advanced the ball from deep in its own territory to the Woodward 19-yard line. The next play a Woodward player intercepted Bondy's pass and raced for the goal line behind interference. Perz finally caught him on the 21-yard line. The game ended with the ball in Woodward's possession. Final score-Woodward 7, Central 0. Bill O'Loughlin regular left end on the Central football team was elected honorary captain for the past season at the annual banquet held in the school cafeteria. Larry Bondy was awarded the Gus Muenzer trophy for being the most valuable player. Coach Sacksteder however took the material at hand and built a fast and capable quintet, which, though not winning the city title, finished second in the race, winning 15 games compared to only four lost in the regular season. They took the Catholic title the second straight year defeating St. Johns In the tournament Central won the first game from St. John's, and lost the second to DeVilbiss, city champions. Central opened the basketball season with a thrilling 22-21 victory over a fine Point Place quintet. In the second game Central traveled to Sylvania to hand the local boys a 46-11 trouncing, with Corbett and Drzazdzynski bagging 19-16 points respectively. The Scarlet and Gray next traveled to Maumee and after a terrific struggle, they emerged victorious, winning 28-27. Too close for comfort. The following night Central journeyed to Fremont to avenge a 33-29 setback of last year. With Corbett and Drzazdrzynski leading the Central scorers, they defeated a fast and celver team 41-34. The Alumni were the next victims of the Irish, losing 37-17 after a stiff tussle. Central successfully turned down its first intra-city opponent, when it defeated Woodward 24-15. After the first few minutes Central was never headed, and showed that it was to be reckoned with in the race for the city championship. With a display of skill, strength and precision of teamwork Central defeated a highly praised Scott quintet 38-14 for their second intra-city win. Tri State with a fast and heavy team gave Central a stiff battle before being subdued 31-27. Central met its first defeat of the season when DeVilbiss, with Martin bagging 17 points, went on a scoring spree and won 34-17. With Corbett sinking two long shots in the last few minutes of play, Central won a thriller from Waite 28-27 after Waite had led the first three quarters. For the second time in four days, Central had to come from behind to win. At the beginning of the fourth quarter Libbey was ahead 36-24, but Central scored 13 points while holding Libbey scoreless to win 37-36, With Holtgrieve added to the lineup Central decisively defeated Woodward for the second time 26-20 to jump into the lead in the city title race. The Irish next traveled to Scott and after a nip and tuck first half battle Central won out in the second half, 31-26 to establish a tighter grip on the city championship. After leading for three quarters, Central was unable to stop Waite's rush in the last quarter and lost by a 24-18 margin. This was a heart-breaker and decreased Central's chances for the championship. Ottoville with a veteran team averaging 6' 3 , invaded Central gym, and defeated the Scarlet and Gray in a thrilling game 29-26. An immense crowd of 3000 packed the University of Toledo Field House to watch Central and DeVilbiss battle for occupancy of first place. DeVilbiss started well in the first half leading 22-5, and although Central played better ball, they could not overcome the DeVilbiss margin, and finally lost 33-20. This defeat put us out of the race for the city title. After losing three straight games Central came back and soundly trounced Libbey the second time 41-26. Everyone of Sacksteder's boys Cexcept Hinton who was out with a sore ankleD saw service. Gaining confidence from the Libbey victory Central met St. John's and never was headed in winning a rather slow game 29-15 to capture the Catholic title for the second consecutive year. Meeting a small but classy quintet from Cathedral Latin of Cleveland, Central had to do some fancy stepping to win their last game 40-36. In the city tournament Central defeated St. John's while losing to DeVilbiss 30-23. Although Central did not win the city championship, the team led by its excel- lent captain, Jack Corbett, should be congratulated on their fine spirit and teamwork win or lose, which carried them to a successful season. 77 Girls' Athletlc League Alice Wilhelm Margaret Dunn Florence Garcau Frances Dunigan Virginia O'Rourlcc . fly,-ff! PARR DONALD BLANCHARD President Corresponding Secretary Treasurer After two very successful Moonlights, during the summer, the Alumni Association opened its fall season of activity with a party of welcome to the Class of 1934. This affair was held at the High School the evening of September 20. Those attending were favored with interesting talks by the very Rev. Msgr. Francis Macelwane and the Rev. Raymond G. Kirsch. The evening was rounded out with dancing, refreshments, and entertainment. November 7, marked the first attempt of the Alumni in sponsoring a Roller Skating Party. This was held at Crystal Gardens and proved very successful from both a financial and social standpoint. On December 10, the final business meeting of the year was held, featuring the election of officers for 1935. The following were authorized to supervise the destiny of the Association for the coming year: Emmetj. Cullen, re-elected president, Ed Moeller, vice-president, Mary C. Parr, re-elected recording secretary, Marie Kutcher, corresponding secretary, Donald Blanchard, re-elected treasurer, and Stephen Szemetko, sergeant-at-arms. The Fourth Annual Homecoming at the High School, the evening of December 27, con- cluded the social activities for 1934. This affair was outstanding in that former friendships were renewed, and that it presented for entertainment two unusually accomplished Alumni vocalists, namely, Agnes Sweeney, '31, and Joseph O'Leary, '31,with Rollin Morse as Masterof Ceremonies. As usual, dancing and refreshments were also provided. Friday evening, March 1, 1935, climaxed months of anticipation, industrious activity, and elaborate preparations, as the Fourth Annual Benefit Ball was held that evening at the New Secor Hotel. Music was featured by James Huber and his Royal Venetians, and the affair was attended by approximately 500 persons. Paul J. Fuller, and Marie Kutcher, very efficiently acted as co-chairmen for the event, and were assisted by a very aggressive committee. As the Alumni Association's monthly publication the Centmgmd, completed its first year of existence with the edition of April, Robert Gumb was vested with editorship for the coming year, at the business meeting of April 12. We wish to take this opportunity to most graciously thank the adviser and the staff of the Centripeml, for the space granted us in this yearbook. It is our belief that past demonstrations of ability, aggressiveness, and determination of the class of '35, point to this year's edition being very outstanding. Also, it is our hope that we will have the privilege of listing you graduates of '35 as active members of our organization, and that your talents and spirit may reflect itself to the advantage of the Alumni Association. Sincerely, CENTRAL CATHOLIC ALUMNI ASSOCIATION. 81 Calendar OCTOBER 11-Officers of the sodality assume duties at the First meeting of the school year. 12-Columbus Day means another free day for the student body. 14-Tenors and baritones vocalize as the Glee Club makes its debut on radio. 19-Only boys are editors of the initial Nuntius Romanus. 22-Ballots are cast and presto!
