lunior artists, B. Siegle, l. Gross, and M. Kreuzberger smile broadly as they put the last touch to their linoleum block prints. Montage, collage, papier colle-words ot mystery to the uninitiated, but to Central's art students these forms ot expression helped to constitute an exciting and challenging year. Besides regular class assignments, the junior and senior art students produced attractive displays tor the bulletin board near the gym and furnished several beautiful panels as a simple but devotional decoration tor the an- nual Christmas assembly. Since the purpose ot the high school art course is to give the students a broad knowledge of the various media he may use to express his ideas, there was no time tor specialization. However, une der the capable direction of Sister M. Anne- marie, many students tound the type of art that loest suited him. Future draitsmen and engineers learned the necessity ot neat accurate work in the drawing ot plans as they pursued their study ot mechanical drawing. This course is offered to juniors and seniors. Swavely, and S, Cambria prepare a display of drawings based on the political and economic rights ot the Flmerican Credo.

Gentrals academic students tried to arrive at a better knowledge of the people of the world by an understanding ot their language and customs. Breaking the pinata, a Christmas custom of gay Mexico came to lite for Spanish lll students. By means ot a PAS. program soph- omores ot Latin ll class portrayed many ot the customs ot the ancient Romans. lnterest in the Berlin election and the cold war prob- lem ot Berlin gave material for many interest- ing discussions to German ll students. As is the custom at Central, French students enter- tained the student body at a well-planned spring assembly. Berlin election results provides a new field of interest for German students, W. Tucker, K. Kline, and Pl. Cassel. Hs a means of becoming acquainted with Spanish culture, P. Donahue, B. Fldams, R. Grossman, and W. Before modeling their creations for the rest of the class, M. Guziejewski, P. Curry, and I. Mull receive some last minute instructions from Sister M. Stanislaus. Master chefs of home economics class, I. Wenrich, P. Buckley, and C. Roth display tasty tidbits from foreign lands. 27 gfltclzen apers. Sophomore members of the Home Eco- nomics Department completed a busy sched- ule of activities this year. The girls partici- pated in a home nursing course and at its successful completion were awarded certifi- cates. Needlework ranked high with this class as they crocheted stoles, rugs, and scarves. Bright reds, blues and the ever popular plaids were much in evidence as junior girls stitched away on their Christmas ensembles. This same group prepared original spring out- fits also. Early in November the senior girls at- tended the cooking school at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel which was sponsored by WEEU and UGl. Later in the month home economists ot UCI provided an experiment in Space Age Cooking. Besides instructions in sewing and cook- ing, these sixty girls received training in the Christian ideals of family living which should aid them in becoming exemplary Catholic homemakers.
