Langan and H. lanes As pens flew across paper, students re- vealed hidden literary talent and produced essays and poems for the national high school anthologies as well as original material tor the schools lirst literary magazine. While seniors spent countless hours assem- bling information on term papers, juniors delved into the mysteries ot short story writ- ing. Underclassmen wrote essays and made posters for various English projects, New vocabulary books proved beneficial to all students. Eight new records, including highlights of Macbeth, Tale of Two Cities, and the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, were added to the visual aids ot this department, Dramatization ot famous scenes from some ot the required readings stimulated interest in the classics. Besides providing entertainment, films like David Copperfield and Chaucer's The Pardon- er's Tale helped students to understand and appreciate their literary heritage.

Ricci ot the truth of his statement. 20 oqfuls We Qefieve Of the utmost importance at Central is Catholic Action which stems from the knowl- edge and love ot God. lt is through the religion class that students learn to combat the false materialistic philosophy of the present day. Our tour-year journey begins with a com- plete study ot the lite ot lesus Christ. Having followed Christ from Bethlehem to lerusalem, sophomores turn their attention to the growth and development of His Mystical Body, Real- izing that not by the words alone will man enter the kingdom of heaven, juniors spend their daily religion period expanding and summarizing the moral code of the Ten Com- mandments. On the threshold of the adult world, seniors delve into a reasonable ex- planation ot our Catholic truths of faith. On our graduation day, we will assume our places in society, well prepared to meet its challenge, for we have received a complete education.

With an eye toward satisfying the growing demand for scientists, the Science Department now boasts a cathode ray oscilloscope, audi- oscillator, recording timer, and stratoscope. Science magazines and periodicals also aid this department to keep up with various im- portant scientific findings. The lunior Chemists' Club, under the spon- sorship ot the Reading Chemists' Club met monthly to tour local industries. A. Boland and B, Pomeroy accompanied by Sister lohn Catherine attended the Middle Atlantic Sci- ence Symposium held at Temple University, Philadelphia. A group ot seniors traveled to Villanova University to View the new science building. Climaxing the year lUO Centralites dis- played their projects in the school science fair held in late lanuary.
