The first regular class day, Father opened our school year with the Mass ot the Holy Spirit. During the course ot the term in his capacity as superintendent of schools, Father attended educational conventions at New Or- leans and Pittsburgh. For the financial and spiritual aid so generously given to Central, Father I-luesrnan receives the sincere thank you of every student.

Under the kindly guidance of the Most Reverend loseph McShea, the Allentown diocese was organized into a working system, Despite the countless demands on his time necessitated by the various steps of organi- zation, Bishop McShea, graciously condescended to open the first Teachers' Institute ,of the newly formed diocese by the celebration of Holy Mass at Sacred Heart Church. ln separate meetings with each group of teachers, the Bishop gave words of encouragement and guidance to his teachers. Several times His Excel: lency visited Reading to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation at the various parishes and to bless the cornerstone of the new parochial school of St. Paul' Parish.

everencf Rayman efeiclzner Untiring in his efforts to make Central an outstand- ing educational center, our principal, the Reverend Raymond l. Leichner directed all the activity of the school. lnterested in the formation of alert Well-informed Catholic citizens, Father encouraged competition at both the local and national level. His interest and con- cern in the students' academic progress inspired con- fidence and top performance. As assistant superinten- dent of schools, Father had added duties, but as a zealous priest his main efforts were directed toward the formation of the Christlife in the students. Weekly Mass and an opportunity to receive the sacraments are the chief means Father offers to Centralites to aid them in forming strong characters to combat the im- morality of the day.
