Luden became Central Catholic High, through the efforts of Father William Hammeke, rector of St. Paul Parish. As the years progressed, the student popu- lation soared from an initial seventy-five to the present enrollment of over eleven hundred. Following the dictates of supply and demand, the school needed more space to accommodate the ever increasing number of students. Addi- tions were made to the main building in l94l, 1945, and l955. But, when the horde of teenagers de- scended upon the Bon Air mansion this past September, not even that stately building could withstand the attack. To alleviate crowded conditions, the administration deemed it neces- sary to open an annex at Twelfth and Spruce. This annex houses six of the freshman classes and has become an integral part of Centrals life. The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but . . ,
