Educators uf the Present Hay REVEREND HENRY J. HUESMAN It was the opening clay of school. Father Huesman, vestment clad, culminated the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and turned to the student body assembled in the gym. With a firm voice he imparted to us a few thoughts and spiritual lifts to spur us on to higher goals during our school year. As chaplain of the Catholic Committee on Scouting of Berks County, he was responsible for the Teachers' Day held at Camp Shikellamy on September 9. He delivered an address on The Church, Home, School, and Scout- ing . He holds an avid interest in scouting and hopes to secure the help of parochial school teachers in gathering recruits for various local troops. Father is sure to appear in Office 3 four times each year to assume his duty as official report card distributor of St. Paul's Parish. As rector of Central, he is vitally interested in the temporal as well as spiritual progress of his flock. The Serra Club, an organization of Catholic Laymen who foster religious vocations among youth, is proud to claim Father Huesman as their spiritual director. Civic organizations have always found him more than willing to lend a helping hand to his community, as is witnessed by his many speaking engagements. For his untiring efforts in making Central a school of which we can be proud, he will have our gratitude always. We sincerely hope that God grants him many more fruitful years in his service.

The Right Reverend' Monsignor EDWARD M. REILLY, J.C.D., LL.D. The intricate workings of our Catholic educational system can be at- tributed to the zeal of the Right Reverend Nlonsignor Edward M. Reilly, who assumes the responsibility of the Diocesan Superintendent of Schools. His work in encouraging and furthering Catholic education has established for him a place of respect and admiration in the hearts of faculty and students alike. After his ordination in 1936, Monsignor Reilly pursued post-graduate work at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. It was in November, 1945, that he took upon himself the enormous duty of Diocesan Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Since that time, he has proved himself many times capable of handling this difficult but rewarding task. He is truly an adept and Worthy successor to the line of expert superintendents whose broad scope of vision and attentive- ness to detail have made our diocesan school system second to none. Monsignor Reilly's tremendous interest in our Catholic education, along with his very gracious personality, show his dedicated spirit to this worthy cause, and for this we all are deeply grateful. 9 The Reverend JOHN J. GRAHAM, D.D., Hssistant Superintendent of Schools The Reverend FREDERICK J. STEVEN- SON, zfssistmzt Superintendent of Schools

I-ire Preparing Citizens REVEREND RAYlWOND LEICHNER Because of the untiring efforts of our principal, Father Raymond Leichner, many new additions were added to the school this year. Hot summer days found him presid- ing over the transformation of Room 204 into an ultra- modern biology laboratory. Not one of us can overlook the tremendous energy Father has put into the Our Lady of the Assumption Convent. Countless times he sacrificed his leisure hours to oversee or work upon some facet of its construction. His tireless attempts to make the new home of the Sisters a thing of beauty and simplicity have certainly been rewarded. But, as always, Father's main interests were centered around the student body. During the first week in Decem- ber he attended the Catholic Educational Association of Pennsylvania Convention in Pittsburgh to catch up on the latest in teaching techniques. The field of education is progressing rapidly, and Cen- tral is in line with the best of schools because of Fatheris expert direction. To ascertain our standard, Father wel- comed the members of the liiddle Atlantic States Evalua- tion Committee who spent April 7, 8, and 9 at Central. In his seven years as principal, Father has watched the enrollment soar to an all-time high, but he has managed to find time and place for everyone. Whole-heartedly' devoted to his vocation and ever zealous for Central's good reputation, he keeps a fatherly eye on the study habits, discipline, and spiritual progress of the entire student body.
