The Most Reverend J. CARROLL MCCORMICK, D.D., Ph.D. Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia Titular Bishop of Ruspae His Excellency The Most Reverend John F. O'Hara, C. S. C., D.D. Archbishop of Philadelphia Hundreds of thousands of Catholic High School graduates in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia gaze proudly upon the cultural surroundings in which they were educated. This system of schools, second to none, is the happy result of the interest and support of the Archbishops of Philadelphia. His Excellency, the Most Reverend john Francis O'Hara, C.S.C., D.D., present Archbishop, is personally responsible for the recent rapid expansion and development of elemen- tary and secondary education. His impressive building pro- gram is evidence of a remarkable confidence in God and 'a deep fatherly solicitude for his teen-age Hock. In this centenary year of Lourdes, we note that Our Blessed Lady is the Patron of the Archdiocese, and that, on May 23, 1952, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia was solemnly consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, Portugal, Further-the Archbishop bears on his coat of arms a silver star set against a blue pennant. The silver star, Her symbol, blue, Her favorite color. 8 The Most Reverend JOSEPH MCSHEA, D.D., Ph.D. Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia Titular Bishop of Mina

The Ri ght Reverend MONSIGN OR EDWARD M. REILLY, J.c.D., LL.D. The Right Reverend Monsignor Edward M. Reilly, a native of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, assumes the responsibility for the complete educational system of the archdiocese. i Following his ordination in 1936, he attended the Catholic Uni- versity of America in Washington, D.C., for graduate work. In 1945, Monsignor Reilly was confronted with the duties of the Diocesan Superintendent of schools. Since that time he has proved himself a worthy successor to a line of expert archdiocesan administrators whose broad vision and attention to detail have made the Philadelphia schools the best in the world. Monsignor's tremendous interest in Catholic education, together with his gracious personality, has won for him the respect and ad- miration of administrators and students alike. 9 The Reverend JOHN j.
