Reilly, a native of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, studied for the priesthood at St. Charles Seminary. Following his ordination in 1936, he attended graduate studies at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D. C. At the death of Monsignor John J. Bonner in November 1945, the gigantic task of supervising diocesan schools was given to Monsignor Reilly. His tremendous interest in Catholic education, coupled with his gracious personality, has won for him the respect and admiration of both administra- tors and students in the Catholic school system ot Philadelphia.
