REVEREND JOHN N. WACHTER Pastor cwrend in lfl N. Wachter Our precious dreams would have dwindled to pretty pictures in the fire, our sincerest hopes to merely Spanish castles in the air, had we not found another rare and prodigal friend in Father Wachter. Having suc- ceeded Father Hammeke as pastor of St. Paul Parish, June 1949, he became actively interested in helping us advance confidently in the direction of our youthful ambitions. Not only did our new pastor bid us go win our spurs, but he also rallied his beloved parishioners to dip into their bags of gold that our Catholic education might become a reality. They call their benevolence the path of duty , we call it the spirit of Christ. We have no words to thank Father Wachter and his flock. We offer them our love and gratitude. These gems have life in them, their colors speak. Twelve

REVEREND CHARLES L. ALLWEIN Principal C1939- l l I l T Father Allwein directs the student l body over the public address sys- T tem. game Kevcreud Kluzrlzs AT. ,flllwviu The heart of progress throbbed within the walls of Central Catholic and Father Allwein kept a steady hand upon its pulse. Weaknesses he combated with keen insight, sound iudgment, and timely advice. Wild beatings of faddish innovation were treated with conservatism. Our enterprising administrator succeeded in so controlling the flow of progress that without yielding anything of principle, he adopted what was necessary in new ideas and brought Central to an acknowledged supremacy in its own line, so much so that already in November, 1946, the Middle States Accrediting Association could proclaim the institution superior and very su- perior after its thorough examination of the educational pro- gram, stafii, plant, and administration. Father AlIwein's philosophy is not to turn the students out small and finished but seriously begun on a wide basis with self- knowledge, energy and purpose. Through change to God. Thirteen
