For over a week, candidates exhibited intense but friendly competition for the offices. Campaigning included candidates making speeches to the student body during a Meet the Candidates Forum, filling the walls with cam- paign posters, and talking with evening students over coffee and soft drinks. During voting hours, candidates could be found just out- side the Student Center soliciting votes. When votes were counted, only a winner for Treasurer emerged. Four more days of cam- paigning and a run off election were necessary to determine winners for Vice President and Secretary. A cooperative effort between the North Carolina Arts Council and the North Carolina Department of Com- munity Colleges permitted CCTC to have Ed Devany as Visiting Artist for the 1984-85 academic year. Ed De- vany came to CCTC with over 30 years experience as a playwright, writer, director, and producer. Prior to his appointment here, he worked at the University of Texas at Austin in an administrative capacity as well as a freelance writer. During 1984-85 Ed Devany shared his talents with CCTC and la qv-s 1-i'i 1 '.-u. .- 'ff the community in varied ways. However in 1979, the Carolina Bank generously established an annual Employee of The Year award to recognize the employee at CCTC ho best reflects the philosophy of the College. This award is not only coveted for its S500 gift, but also for the honor of being selected by fellow employees. A review of the first five Employee of The Year winners clearly indi- cates that this award also recog- nizes dedication to the College. These winners have over 75 years of cumulative service to the State of North Carolina. Our 1983-84 win- ner, Tommy Mann, has seventeen years of service with CCTC. Branch Banking and Trust Com- pany will continue The Carolina Bank tradition of offering this award to deserving employees. Employee of the Year The First Five Years E.C.
