Hello in there, little man! 19 AMEN! ' i i i 5 T 'ii 5 Q si DQ wp U0 lip .J xglul Dr. David H. Spahr, Principal Dear Graduating Senior, At this point in your life you have had numerous experiences that come with living and learning. These helped form you into the person you are. This invest- ment in time, energy, and effort will pay you untold dividends as you begin a new chapter in your life. Each day is a day of preparation for the future. We know not what tomorrow will bring. We do know those lasting values of honesty, integrity, and trust that will equip each of us to meet the unknown with cour- age and optimism. Every person individually must choose to apply or not to apply these qualities to their life style. Correspondingly, one must have faith. Faith in tomorrow, faith in our fellow man and above all, faith in God. lt is this faith that turns the darkness into light . . . That gives us hope when we need it most. It has been said that to live is to learn. We learn in order to make wise choices. Your education at Central Bucks West has given you an opportunity to experience decision making in many ways. All of us make choices and many times we make mistakes. Perhaps you have heard me say, lt is not wrong to make a mistake . . . it is wrong to disregard one. Another way of looking at it is this. A mistake is not a mistake unless one chooses to do nothing about it Your life thus far then has afforded you the op- portunity to learn, to choose between alternatives. What about the future? Remember, life is choice. Choose well. Each choice is brief, but endless. Sincerely yours, David H. We, the editors of Antler, have come to the decision to dedicate the yearbook to a member of the professional staff who has contributed most to the school in any way, shape, or form, and from those contributions created a new or boosted an old, general all around feeling of spirit within the school andfor the community in an individual year. We chose this year, Ross Alden Smith, active year 'round member of the professional staff, co-ordinator of the music department, and director of our concert and marching bands. Mr. Smith, in his past two years here at C. B. West, has worked long hot summer days and cool refreshing nights to build a rock he could stand proud on. He has brought from nearly dust, potential and biting, back breaking determination and pro- duced a top notch competitive marching band that was present at football games --L even when it didn't want to be - at pep rallies to attempt to boost student morale, and at numerous community functions. He took a half decent concert band and builtva performance that all who saw it would stand with a shocked gaze at the awesome splendor that this band had. The public stood before the victorious 1812 Overture was ever completed. What makes a man with such command and talent stay to do the iob that Ross Smith did? What did this school have that none of the others had, so that when Ralph McCain, his drill master of five years, left for Wm. Tennent, Ross stayed? And what of the kids that knew and understood Ross Alden Smith? Weren't they to be considered for the long hard hours they put in, not only for themselves but for him? Ross Smith is a great man. And great men are products of greater things. Stick with it Mr. Smith. Many people are behind you, and if you ever find yourself in a distasteful situation just wave that old Hurricane flag and a few of us will under- stand what you want to say. a.h. i l X- fb li, o ON STAGE . . - NEXT ROSS THE LIBERTY THREE is The Liberty Three sing together because they like to sing folk songs, and they enioy entertaining people. The three who com- pose the group are: Charlie Gibson, five-string banjo player, the instrumental soloist of the group, Ross Smith, bass player who does the arranging, and Cary Shaner, guitar player, who works on dialogue and research into the origin of the songs they use. They have performed in almost every possible situa- tion: in night clubs, private parties and banquets, and in con- cert at several leading colleges. The three individual talents, when blended, give an approach to folk music which, they feel, is friendly and slightly sophisticated. They have no spe- cialized field but rather sing any song which strikes their fancy. Their enthusiasm, humor, and audience participation give them a performance which they believe to be entertaining and fun for all. 1 T, A , -1. Antler '72 Remembers: The lirst cloy of school The f l .I would like to express my thanks to all involved in the making of this Hook, underclassmen, seniors, and faculty and administrative co- operation during blissful and downright disgusting times. I would also like to thank those who didn't cooperate 'cause they made my iob lust a heck of a lot easier. I would like to thank my student photographers who brought me zounds of pictures from around the school. I want to offer special thanks to Kevin, the Davor man, Tony, the dago, and Abe, who sent us home one fine morning. I would like now to especially thank Mr. Wolff and Progress, our publishers, for their patience in our incompetence and their pleasant secretary, who kept my morale up when I lost 5 pages in the mail. I would like to thank my editors for their painstaking work and putting up with me on top of that. It took stomach, so let's forget it. There's not much more I can say 'cause I'm tired and I wanna go to bedl so thanks and if anyone gives you any stuff about this great book tell 'em to pound sand. I would like to incorporate, at this point a grand applause for our friend, Frank fcalled this only by his editors and Kevinj commonly known as mild mannered Mr. Freitag, responsible for spurring the Antler Avenger onward.' - ' .
