Social Studies In this age of rapid social change, the Social Studies Department of Cen- tral Bucks is striving to prepare its students for the challenge of the future. In addition to the standard courses of World Cultures, American Civilization, and Problems ot Democracy, the de- partment offers a Sociology elective and elective for those interested in Philosophy and the Humanities. Films, group discussions, and lield trips, designed to increase the students' understanding of the subject, are a vital part of class work. Behind the scenes in alter-school hours and on workshop days, staff members worked carefully to evaluate the present course oi study in English and to organize recommendations tor revision, outlined a plan to create more emphasis on oral and written composi- tion, continued a study of the adapt- ability of structural linguistics to the present program, and repatterned final examinations to reflect changing focus.
