Q , 19- f.::.r+s-f,:e-1-1 R,t,.-aff., Art Expansion of the established curriculum resulted in general improvements in the Art Department. In addi- tion to their basic classroom studies, Mr. Vernon's stu- dents participated in various exhibits and contests, in- cluding four National Poster Contests and the Hallmark Art Contest. Alumni exhibits and examples of student work were also displayed for the enjoyment of the student body. Outside sketching and drawing from stu- dent models and animals provided the Fine Arts students with inspiration and valuable experience. Introductions to lithography, construction of mobiles, collages, portrai- ture, figure sculpture, and fundamentals of drawing were but a few of the many facets of the Fine Arts curriculum. The expansion and improvement of the Applied Arts department, under the direction of Jeanne Stroup, was shown in the volume and versatility of the works produced. Extended use of the potters wheel, variation of glazes, and new techniques in jewelry and glass pro- vided students with practical as well as pleasurable knowledge.
