ANTON HESS Millersvil Duke University Temple University, M.S. in Ed., Ed.D Regional Superintendent To the Seniors: The theme of this year's Antler is of great importance to all, especially to the class of l960. As you relive your school years through words and pictures in this book, what point of view are you taking into the world? Undoubtedly you think and act differently from the way you did as und l erc assmen. Years of physical, mental, and social growth have helped to mold your thoughts and deeds. You and your classmates and teacl ' ' ' iers have lived together with many different standarl ts or points of view. Living together has been a truly worthwhile educational experience only if it has taught you respect and ' tolerance for the other person's point of view. Th' I ' at Central Bucks. IS hope you have achieved MR. JACK L. LIVINGSTON Lock Haven State Teachers College, B.S. Pennsylvania State University M.Ed. le State Teachers College, B.S. De Gustibus N - cernmg tastes there is no disputing-has been an oft repeated truism to justify a difference of opinion. True, a point of view, or opinion, is not the same as taste, but certainly like taste it is colored by the sum total of related environment, heritage, and experiences. on Disputandumn con ' American education today is buffeted by so many varying points of view that we tend to 'iblow with the wind. The theme of this year- book is appropriate as it helps all of us to realize that in the comprehensive American high school there is something to meet the needs of each pupil, and that this can be true without sacri- ficing academic excellence. May the members of the class of '60 forever keep this tolerance for the point of view of their fellowrnen, and may God add his blessing to the better understandin f l ' ' g o tus cornerstone of our way of life. ur poinf Director of Secondary Education High School Principal 6 .1114 A is xv, Mr. james lf. We can look back on all the fun and work that we have shared and real- ize that we are much better persons because of our experiences. The ar- row for us now points toward the future, and again, many digerent vistas. Some graduates will further their education: others will join the Armed Services: and still others will be obtaining jobs and entering the business world. Whatever our plans for the fu- ture may be, they will, in a sense, re- flect the ,years we have spent at Central Bucks. ff? sl .1 Senior Class Counselor Mr. Edward Slurlevanl Home Room Presidents - 9 'rf Left to right, lfirzvt row: Fred Buck, Margaret Castor, Brenda Shantz, Peggie Moore, Bill Xvlllxlll- illgl0ll. Taking tests, planning courses, considering colleges, building school spirit, editing the school math magazine, The Digit Digest, sponsoring Sock dances, rep- resenting C.B. in the Bux-Mont Forum, and setting the scene for the Junior Prom were only a few of many pursuits undertaken by the Juniors. CLASS OF 1962 The Sophomores' point of view was reflected in their concentration on creating class unity and spirit. The varied and eye-catching Soph bulletin board displays painted a graphic picture of the class' pride in its members and their activ- ities: athletic, social, and academic. Sophomoristicated Publication, a weekly paper published by the class, spotlighted throughout the year a long series of interesting and successful projects, the Christmas Sno- Ball Dance and the Social Usage Tests to name two. - 9- f1?8E?l I SOPHOMORE CLASS COUNSELOR Miss Mae L. Porter CLASS OF 1963 Early in the school year the Freshman point of view began to emerge as the class, led by jon Beard, alter- nately sailed and struggled through its first year at Central Bucks. Before the traditional Turkey Game Pep Rally, with drums beating and trumpets blaring, the Freshmen marched through the halls into the lob- by to scrub the school plaque until it shone, initiating a brand-new custom. Much of the class' time was spent in its guidance program, one of the many phases of getting acquaint- ed with the school. With understanding amusement the upperclassmen watched the poor freshmen misplace gym suits, books -yes, even entire classrooms. But no one laughed too loudly, for every high school student fthough he hates to admit itj was once a freshman himself. 75 ol Illlfi sf ? 32 3-gggw K X A Q vwigmgi gg, 2-,V W ., . Like high school students everywhere, we at 12.13. form both brief acquaintances and lasting friendships with classmates and teachers. Vaeillating moods of love and hate, interest and boredom, ac'c'eptanc'e and defiance, joy and disappointment shade our feelings toward our srhool. Thinking beyond these basir traits, we hnd that our school lif is also unique unto itself. Enthusiastirally joining and supportin the many extra curricular activities, and participating in lively, i teresting classes, we are able to reflect both the llavor and spirit our school as well as our own individuality. Duane Flegel, Bar- bara Moore, and Mrs. Landry guided the planning and development of the edi- torial portion ol the Antler while Gary Spear and Mrs. Payne led an enthusiastic group in providing the funds to finance the book. The stalf's goal was the production of a yearbook that would rellect honestly and accurately the activities at Central Bucks High School. Preparation by students for careers when they leave high school constitutes an especially worthwhile part of school life in Central Bucks. The Future Business Leaders of America, pro- gressive organization for secretaries, ofiice work- ers, and business executives-to-be, sponsored a number of activities including the sale of Christ- mas cards and candy, a spring dance, speakers at club meetings, and an extensive communica- tion with business schools throughout the coun- try. The Homemaking Club held weekly meetings during which work on a variety of projects- knitting, rug making, and fine sewing-was per- fected. Sue Bonine, club president, led the Future Teachers through an especially active year's program. Members of the club viewed films, listened to selected speakers, did some student teaching, and gave a highly successful Sadie Hawkins dance on March 25. These stu- dents were busily engaged in stamping books at the main desk, returning books to the shelves, helping to prepare new books for circulation, checking the maga- zines, and making out overdue notices. For the most part, these were students who had given up valuable study hall time in order to play the essential part they did in the Central Bucks library system. 90 2412 cm RESEARCH A research grant from the Heart Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania provided specimens and equipment for study by the Biological Research Club. Members of the club, Bill Burns, john Prickett, Carol Hundertmark, jennifer Jager, Kathy Roberts, Eliza- beth Speight, Karen Whitten, and Carolyn Varga, studied the effects of various hormones and radio active isotopes on the growth and general metabolism of white rats. During the school year, three of the club members, their sponsor, Mr. Valentine Seidle, and Miss Nailor, Director of Guidance, went to Albright University to observe the university's science offerings and to investigate its biological research program. In conducting experiments at Central Bucks, each student in the research group worked after school approximately hve hours per week. Four adult rats, two males and two females, and ten young rats were used in the study, which included diet, growth hormones, and radioautographs. Q5 3 ffl.-- F fd l Smlcrl, left In right: C. Strangers to Central Bucks may be startled when they hear a wagon rattling and creaking its way down the hallg but old hands at C.B. know that this noisy apparatus is only the cart which carries tape recorders, record players, movies, projectors, and some- times screens, to and from various classrooms in the school building. So it was this year with the Central Bucks football team-one game made the whole season a worthwhile one for C.B. On Tlianksgiving Day. North Penn came to town, picked by many to defeat the Bucks in the traditional Turkey Day elassie. In this, their finest showing of the year, the C.l5, pigskin men fought to a El-7 triumph, which washed away all hearlaehes of previous defeats. It was thought by many that C.B. had the horses to bring home a trophy this year, but somehow the victories did not come often enough. Only in the hnal game did C.B.'s real stamina and talent come to the foreground: and this fourth win against hve defeats was registered with loud applause. Central Bucks re- etived one win to its credit by virtue of a forfeit, due to an ineligible player helded by Upper Moreland. Hawthorne Duekelt was chosen for the All-Bux- Mont first team after becoming the league's leading ground gainer during the regular season. Top honors went to the Central Bucks Rifle Team as the group, sponsored by Mr. Roger Williams, and led by eo-captains Shirley Thierolf and Kent Ander- son, progressed steadily to the State Championship playoffs. Members of the team, composed solely of seniors. turned in an undefeated league record enabling them to enter the District I Championships. Here, by de- feating Upper Darby 500-499, the team qualified for the Regional Chalnpionships. Again, the CB. marks- lnen were victorious, this time outshooting liphrata 500--196 and thus qualifying for the State Champion- ship playolls where they fired their way to second place standing in Pennsylvania. The liuekaneer varsity basketeers wound up the seheduled season in a three way deadlock for the liux-Mont League-'s runner-up slot. A lack ol' one point in the playoll' game put UB. in third place in the final standings, but the team's 17-ti over all win- loss rerord looked mighty good even from a third place angle. Outstanding individual performances, in addition to the great team spirit displayed throughout the sea- son, gave Captain Tom LaRue a position on the All- Bux-lXIont second team. john Twining and Lou Eich- enlaub received honorable mention for their excel- lent service. VVhile Santa Claus was climbing down chimneys, the Buekaneers were busy playing basketball in the North Penn Lions' Tournament. The MacFarlane men brought home the bacon with a runner-up tro- phy in that endeavor, the best C.B. showing yet in tournament play. Left In right: Mr. lSIacl arlane, Crmrlli T.
