Student and faculty picnics were an important part of the social life of the school family. They were a time to make new acquaintances, have fun and maybe, if you were fortunate, get a chance to talk to that special someone, but you seldom had that chance. After a fine dinner, the students would perhaps gather for a treasure hunt. A long hike in which all must partici- pate was planned for the entire afternoon of the next day.

A sleepy member of the girls vegetable crew turns over in bed and stops the annoying alarm clock. But just as she is almost asleep once more-Brrrr!-an alarm in the next room reminds her that it is five- thirty and time to get up. Ho! Hum! And out of bed she crawls, quickly slipping into her work clothes. She walks down the corridor, side-steps the floor-sweeper, and descends into the basement hall. Others of like destination join her, and together they, with peelers in hand begin their duty. These vegetable girls really play an important part in appeasing the tremendous appetites of hundreds of students. While they do not mind the potatoes, carrots, turnips and apples, sad oountenances mark the onion peeling. As the work proceeds, the constant contact which students enjoy in this work assignments forms part of their character training. These duties are considered a part of school discipline and training. Done in the right spirit, the most menial task is done as unto the Lord. Paul said, whatsoever ye do, do it heartily as to the Lord. lCol. 3:23l CBI in some respects was a self-sustaining unit. It had its own laundry, located in the basement of the Administrative building where the trunk room is presently located. It was operated by student help. Passing by the door, one would hear the roar of the washing machines, the rumble ofthe mangles, the screech of the extracting and the slam of the presses. The students praised God for this adequate equipment! Going inside, one would see bee-hive activity-girls scrubbing shirts, hanging up clothes, or ironing, but singing all the time. Laundry duty might seem mundane, but whatever was done, was done to the glory of God. ...g.........4...-........... ---Lia Edwin Antin does not have any difficulty in understanding how all the machinery operates.
