7k 246134 7646 Amt No act is somewhat noble or A sacrifice unless It carries all the character Of true unselfishness. There is no glory on the earth That anyone deserves Except as now his fellowman He really loves and serves. He has to be sincere in all He ever strives to do And not just try to benefit The wealthy and the few. lf we could live from day to day As Jesus would have us to live It would not seem so harsh for us Our enemies to forgive. So let's remember the other fellow Let's abide by the golden rule For only then can we be sure Our act is sincere and true. Barrey Smith '57 74a 'kaelno It is my opinion that the American people are somehow being misled about our teachers. The parents' distorted view of them is quite appalling. Maybe you are one of those who have the mistaken idea that teaching school is an undemanding position, filled by sitting behind a desk and giving assignments. The real teachers, however, are busy getting to know their pupils better, outlining a year's pro- gram that will be both beneficial and interesting, and composing tests to determine if they have been teaching in a manner their students are comprehending. Their job is a difficult one, requiring diligent handling. Are you one of the parents who sends his children to school expecting the teacher to straighten them out, without personally supporting the teacher's program? Some mothers belong to nearly every club in town and the fathers to all the lodges, but how many are interested enough in their children to spend two hours once a month making an effort to find out why Johnny can't read? A very, very few, but the attendance invariably increases when there is a covered-dish supper! Yes, the teachers can instruct guide, and direct but they need to have the parents fulfilling their duty AFTER school hours.
