SCIENCE io! K? HR. AUSTIN COX Physics, Geometry, Math. MR. E. L. OUTLAND Algebra, History. MR. HAROLD McCOY Advanced Algebra, Math. HR. ALLAN BOND Biology, Chemistry, Zoology. MATH Alan Patrick and Judy Riggs work on a difficult problem in advanced algebra. Mr. Bond delivers one of his lectures in biology class. SCIENCE IS ESSENTIAL Our science department has a diversity of subjects. The subjects included in our curricu- lum of natural sciences are physics, chemistry, botany, biology, and zoology. A knowledge of science is necessary for a limited under- standing of the discoveries that are being made in the world today. Our school requires every student to take one year of science. SIMPLE ARITHMETIC AND HIGHER MATH ARE GIVEN The mathematics department at Centerville includes simple arithmetic as well as higher mathematics. For those desiring a major in math, algebra, plane geometry, and advanced algebra are given. For the student whose need is for everyday useageg general math, review math, and commercial arithmetic are available.

COMMERCIAL Miss Freeman gives instructions during first year typing class. GRICULTURE ,Lv-' Mr. wittman and his agriculture class discuss the various kinds of seeds shown in the exhibit. ALL SUBJECTS ARE INTERRELATED All subjects in the commercial field are very practical. For those planning to go on in the co mercial field, two years of typing, one year of shorthand, and a year of bookPeeping are given. General business and commercial law are given to anyone interested in learning how to conduct everyday business. Miss Freeman, typing and shorthand teacher, stresses the fact that gra mar is an important part of typing and shorthand. One cannot separ- ate one subject from anotherg actually they are all interrelated. VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE COURSE IS VITAL Four years of agriculture are offered at CHS for those desiring a major in the subject. Upon graduation the agriculture major is prepar- ed either to begin farming or to go on to col- lege and further his study in this field. This course is important to our nation, for what can be more vital to us than our food supply? . .m,Igg MR. MAX SHOWALTER Occupations, Health, Math, Physical Education, Coach. 0-1 V.-. - Q Jerilene Alexander and Miss Mcconaha discuss the health and hygene chart shown in the picture. HOM -MAKING CONSISTS OF MANY FIEIDS It used to be that home economics, now called home-making, was just sewing and cooking, but now there are seven different fields covered in this course. These fields are: social devel- opment and fa ily relations, child care and training, the house: its furnishings and care, foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, fan- ily health and home care of the sick, home nan- agement and cons mer buying. Miss Glunt is interested in making some of these fields available to the boys. She believes that the field of social development would be especially interesting to the boys. STUDENTS LEARN GOOD HEALTH HABITS One semester of girls' and one semester of boys' health is given each year. This course is required of every frea man. In this course the different parts of the body and their functions are taught. Also the students learn good health habits in this course.
