CENTERVILLE BULLDOGS The 'Centerville Bulldogs of 19138-'39 turned in a better performance this season than any 'Centerville squad has in recent years. Besides winningi the County Conferi- ence championshlip, they won the Wayne County Tourney, ,and last but not least, they played one of the best games of the season against the Morton Red Devils in the finals of the Sectional Tourney. During the season, in their schedule games, the Bulldogs lost only three games'- two to Hagerstown by very close scores, and one to Liberty, also a close game, The three main reasons for the splendid record of this year's team are: first, the attiturde of the boysg second, their ability to playg and third, our coach, one of the best coaches to be found-Mac Ruby. Twenty-five MORTONIAN, '39 C H S LAWRENCE MARTIN One of the reasons why the Bulldogs got so many balls off the balckiboard is Biggen . A wonderful iioor general and captain who made all-county and sectional guard. FRANK BAXTER Frankie mastered the art of screening for the forwards and taking unorthodox shots. He ranked as all-sectional and county center. ROBERT TOSCHLOG f0ne of the boys who contributed! to the high moral of the ball club with his attitude. Bob specialized in long shooting. VIRGIL RICHARDSON 'Considered as one of the fastest guards in Eastern llndiana basketball circles, Wimpy was the fu-aclklbone of our defense against fast brealkinlgf' offenses. He earned all-county and sectional honors. HOWARD MARTIN Skeeter is noted for his aggressivene-ss and spot shot from the right side of the floor. He made all-county forward position. FRANCIS NICHOLSOIN. Able to play at either forward or guard position very well, Fritz hit his peak at Sectional time and contributed greatly' to the success of the ball club. KENNETH FRAME 'Opposing guards feared Kenny because of his extreme deceptiveness and his ability to hit any place on the left side of the floor. He was honored by' being named on the all-county and sectional selections. EDDIE BELLEW A speed merchant who capably displayed his wares whenever they were needed. We are looking forward to having him with us next year. Twently-six C H S MORTONIAN, '39 'I ' M . QL if 5 l., P-'ETQTIN f is is ,W Q E. CHGITCH V -'-'4 ' '- 4 ----- - QLQUQQTDQE f., ' , ,.-5: x .EL-. He scored an average of nine points for every full game he played. ROBERT BEESON Bob saw little acti-on this season but we hope he comes through in fine style next year. ELDON CHURCH Lack of experience kept Flash from seeing more action. We look back with pride on his fine work in the Hagerstown game. His defensive ability under' the basket kept many a point from being scored by Hagerstown. DONALD SITTLOH Don has another year with us in which to show his ball handling and dribbling ability. BASKETBALL GIRLS VVIhen the basketball season comes around, you can just bet that these girls are going to help get the spirit moving. This year, teams were chosen with Jeanne Lanninlgq, Carrol MclConaha, Margaret Paulson and Blanuhe West as captains. Each Wednesday, night, rain or shine, these teams would battle. Carrol's team won every game they played, Jeanne's team gained second place with only three defeats, Margaret's thirdg and Blanche's fourth. , Tfhe girls organized into class teams and had a class tourney in th-e Big Gym, After defeating first the Seniors and then the Juniors Qwho fbeat the Sophomoresj, the Freshmen emerged victorious and took the trophy. CENTERVILLE BULLPUPS Although the Bullpups were unable to compete with the record of the Bulldogs, they still had nothing to be ashamed of. During their season of playing they' won the greater part of their games. They even upset the Hagerstown second team in their first schedule game with them. In the class tourney, some of the above Sophomore toys upset the Seniors and gave the Juniors a hard game. This tourney raised our hopes for our future iirst team because both the Freshmen and Sophomore boys did a great job of handling the basketball. We always laugh at teacher's iokes No matter what. they lbeg 'Tis not because they're funny, But because it's policy. Maxine fat the almond counterbz Who attends to the nuts? Clerk: Be patient . Better than half the games played were woni. We defeated some of the best teams of the county and tied Economy fone of the leading teamsj. Many of the members are seniors, but there are several promising candidates for next year. As far as hitting was concerned, Baxter, Beeson, Bellew, and Jones had a good year. Now, in Uhe srpring, track seems to have taken the place of baseball and we have some very good track athletes. This year the band has marched quite a bit, thus adding much to the spirit of the school. They have played at each of the home games and on D-ecemher 20 they marched at the Christmas Program which was under Miss Mitchell's direction. The band made a remarkable record last year in their adhievement at the State Gontest. We hope in later years they will continue to improve and bring honors to Centerville High School. V 'Ilhe action of the entire play took place in One Madi Night and what a crazy night it is! Don Cutter accompanied .by Wing, his proverbequotinlg Chinese valet, goes to the Cutter mansion, a lonely house in the hills, to complete his latest play in peace and quiet. The house has been deserted for years, a series of mysterious murders having given it the reputation of being haunted. Imagine Don's astonishment Wihen he finds the house tenanted by a number of very strange people. They are lunaltics under the care of Dr. Bunn, whose house nearby has burned down. They are really qfuite harmless but Don doesn'wt know this. Among the inmates is Lucille, a beautiful gvirl with an amazing story of persecution and intrigue. Like a true Lockinvar, Don is just about to ride to her rescue when his Fancee and her mother put in an appear- ance with their maid 1Depressiion, one of the funniest colored characters in years. From this point, everything happened, inclzud-ing talking ghosts, screaming women, disappear- ing guests, and for the climax, the appearance on the scene of an escaped murderer fleeing for his life. Don succeeded in rescuiinlg the lovely Lucille from a simister fate only after a series of thrilling funny escapadcs.
