We went to all the football games to give our shows, and Mr. Peiffer started a small band for the basketball games called the Hot-Rods. They really livened those long intermissions! The Band gave two concerts this year, one dming the Christmas se ason and one in the Spring. Jefferson High School gave us a concert here at Centerville this winter, and in turn we gave one for them. We went to the District Band Contest this year with the minimum of band members allowed. All in all, the band members will remember this year as one of the best the Band has ever had. . . Centerville School was blessed by having twenty-two of these little darlings begin here. They were: Albert Belvo, Rose Brown, Kay Decker, Connie Harnish, David Hoover, Kim Howe, Dale Johnson, Charles Keck, Katherine Koverman, John Lucas, Susan Martin, Beverly Mitchell, Gene Paff, Judy Pease, Jerry Piatt, Carol Reese, Judy Rineer, Bill Robbins, Betsy Schell, Fred Swigart, Janet Urschel, and Ruth Von Nieda. Along with learning the ABC's in the first and second grades, our favorite pastime was playing Red Rover and Hide-and-Go-Seek at recess, which usually ended up in kissing parties behind the bus garage. Carol Cultice, Margaret Dailey, Jenny Stocker, Kenny Seitner, Dick Weinland, and Herbert Wight joined us in the third grade, Connie Harnish left. We had many happy times that year singing songs and giving plays with Mrs. Burnett. The fourth grade brought Nancy Brunsman, Barbara Mehaffie, Marvin Lindamood, and Carole Moyer. That year we became a little more bold having many mudball and snowball fights with the class of '56, We usually came out on the wrong end! One of the biggest thrills of that year was being chosen by Mrs. Piety to clean out the fish bowl. We also remember the doghouse in which we spent much time as a punishment. Three things stand out in our minds from the fifth grade: forts, tire fights, and we 're sure that Miss Delaney will never forget the epidemic of measles that sometimes kept more at home than at school. Evelyn Bell and Nancy Sweet arrived that year just in time to get the measles. Jerry Piatt left us that year, but came back the following year along with Mary Ruth Payne. In the sixth grade we had the never-to-be-forgotten Mrs. Albrecktson as our teacher. She still kids us about the days when we had to stand with our noses pressed against the blackboard in a circle two inches above our head, and the recesses when we had to write hundreds of times, I will not talk anymore. Carole Moyer left us that year, and Delcres Sieber joined us. The seventh grade made us feel very old as we began changing classes for the first time. We often spent more of our time in the halls than in the classroom. Also, that year we elected class officers for the first time. We chose Kim Howe as President, and We believe we made a wise choice as he has been our leader through our last six years. Donald Slagle, Loj ann Jund, and Larry Leiter came to Centerville that year. Bea Boldt and Judy Rees joined us in the eighth grade. We really worked that year by sell- ing peanut crunch and creamy mints in hopes of getting enough money to take a senior trip someday. Our freshman year was highlighted by our achievements in both boys' and girls' sports. The boys' basketball ceam boasted a 12-4 record. George Franzen, Chesta List, John Rumbarger, Eleanor Schumaker, and Martha Wear came to join us in our first year of high school. The girls especially remember the sophomore year for the hilarious escapades in Home Ec classes, such as dropping cakes out the window and finding salt in our sugar bowls. That was the year that we proudly moved into our new high school building. Paula Hudson, Pat Johnson, Janice Lang, Jack McMeelcin, Jim Rice, Ted Sullivan, and Wanda Wilson joined us that year. Connie Harnish and Carole Moyer returned. Jan Besom, Leslie Cockburn, Merrill Durig, Doug Howe, Ima Jean Jones, and Ruth Martin all arrived in our junior year to help us round out the year by putting on our play Gown of Glory. In the spring of that year we were seen carrying plastic pools, buckets, and gold fish through the Biltmore Hotel in preparation for our prom. This was followed by an early morning breakfast in Miamisburg. In our last year of high school we gained, last but not least, Paul Johns. Our play The Inner Willy was an even better success than last year's play. In om' senior year at C. H. S., we finally quieted down somewhat and began to look to the future with a little more seriousness. Soon we will bid farewell to Centerville High School and look forward to new achievements. To Mr. Doan, who has been our advisor the last two years and has helped our class with its many problems, we all owe a debt of gratitude. 87 -- fu ' A -1-. ifw WM .
