OUR SCHOOL DEDICATION YVe are proud to dedicate this 19419 edition of the Elkonian to all of the good citi- zens of the Centerville counnunity. VVe extend our thanks and appreciation to you for providing us with the beautiful new addition to our school. It does provide the inuch needed extra room along with inany added facilities which will directly l'0fl- tribute to a greater thoroughness and efficiency in our educational program. VVe realize that all of this was accomplished because of your intense interest in the cause of education. Many negative factors which have halted building programs in other connnunities, were inet and overcome by the citizens of 'Washington Township. YVe trust that we, as students of Centerville School, will always merit the faith and inter- est which you have shown in us. J BOARD 01 EDUCATION ' if fllx 31 nn H . WOOI.l',Xli'l' an w. Amcssuz U. Of the 29 little ones only five will graduate from this school. They will be, maybe, Vivian Hibberd, Sidney Hill, Ron- ald Swallow, Gene Williamson and Dick Turner. On our way through the educational system year by year, we picked up and dropped off a few students. In the second grade we picked up George Buriff and Pat Saylor. While journeying through the third and fourth grades we had a few skirmishes with upper class- men, such as mud ball fights and so forth. Carolyn Whitmore also joined us in the fourth grade. In the Hfth and sixth grades we got into the minimum of trouble and prepared ourselves for Jr. High School. Dale Rose was the new addition in the sixth grade. Our Jr. Hi beginning in the seventh grade, was quite ordinary, but in the eighth grade some- thing unusual happened. Our class increased in population by adding Earl Smith and Helen Mar- garet Knicely to the class register. Next came our Freshman year with parties, new people, Ruth Brent, Phyllis Martin, Carole Hissong and Karl Robbins and generally we had hard work together with fun. In our Sophomore year we prepared for our Junior-Senior Prom. Then came our big Junior year. The beginning of the year we gave our class play, only after many trying rehearsals. The rest of the year we did what most classes do . . .We loafed and fur- nished the Seniors with a delightful prom. Now comes our Senior year. We Started a bi-weekly paper called The Page, which met with roaring success. Our class play, Calm Yourself, was to us a great achievement. Our class has had many a delightful time, including the prom the Juniors gave us at the Miami Country Club. , The graduation exercises were a crowning point to our twelve years in school. And thus, we come to the end of the History of the Senior Class of 1949. JMX. --M1--....,,,,..,.,w- US KIDS ! ! !! Ten years from the date of our graduation. We have assembled at the fantastically designed mansion of Carolyn Whitmore. We had been warned that she designed it after a nightmare about Africa, but we didnit think anything could be this exaggerated. The first person we see is Dick Turner. He has been marching around all night. A few years ago one would have thought Turner would be manufacturing Hot Rods, but he has somewhat fooled the world. He is now commanding ofiicer of VVest Point. The center of that crowd over there is Dale Rose, The Felt Mist,', who has given the world a thrill with his beautiful voice. His fame is due to the operetta of 19419. Here's Smitty. CEarl Smith to those not in the know.j He's doing the same thing he was doing in high school only on a larger scale. Earl is the head of the Smith Brother's Clinic for Dogs. We can't separate the next two because it wouldn't seem right. In fact, they haven't been sep- arated since Ronny had the mumps in our senior year. Oh! Now you've guessed it! It's Phyllis and Ronny. They're still in love! Sidney Hill is here from out West. He's president of a bank in Washington State Qwhere the girls are stronger than the ones in Ohioj. There's a man who by accident hit it rich. fln fact everything came by accident.j lt's Karl Robbins, the oil millionaire now. He drilled for water, but came up with black gold. Ruth Brent, the world famous editor of the Chicago Tribune, looks very lovely tonight. She told us that for once she is having no reporter trouble. CGuess we did give her a good many headaches in journalismj The two most attractive school teachers in the U. S. are here tonight. They have won numer- ous beauty contests and I am told that they have drawers filled with engagement rings. Pat and Vivian say teaching is fun-but twelve years in scllool was enough! The woman mixing up an elixir for the orchids in the corner is Helen Margaret, the brain of chemistry class. She is doing quite well at the Du Pont Laboratories, but a man would help. When you think of pinball machines, don't you always think of George? He has finally made a profit on the contraptions. No, you guessed wrong! It's no tilting trick. He manufactures pin- ball machines. Carole just entered the room in a lovely new khaki creation. She sets the styles now as First Lady. Oh, yes, sheis married to the new president and her daughter takes' lessons from Margaret Truman's teacher. A 1' Qfg. -i Q Under that gorgeous tan you'll find Gene. Heis been in Brggzil looking for oil and girls for eight years. Having found 2,480,005 oil wells, Genepstill unhappily, There must be girls there somewhere l 1949 SENIOR CLASS YVIILL..
