President, Lions Club 'Ihu 1948 lilkonian Statl takes great pleasure in dedicating this vear book to two worthy organizations, The Parent- Teacher Association and The Lions Club. The Parent-Teacher Association. reorganized in 1940. and The Lions Club, found- ed in 1945, have contributed both time and money towards making our school and community more prosperous and pro- gressive. The Parent-T eachtr Association has purchased tive acres for an athletic Held and additional play ground space. In the past year this group presented a Victrola and records. Rayoscope for use in science classes, two lavatories for small children, and a Coffee Maker for use in the school. A contribution of S450 was made for the new school addition, and S1088 went to cancel the debt to the late Mr. Schmieding. A Christmas treat for the grade children has been an annual gift from the Lions Club. For S1000 they purchased one and two-thirds acres for school play grounds in 1946. Also, this organization has purchased 5406.76 worth of athletic and recreational equipment for the elementary and high school grades. The Lions Club greatly helped in making our school addition possible bv donating 351068 for this project. Through the efforts of these two organizations, the school-building bond issue and a two-mill operating levy were made possible. With considerable pride in and regard for these two organizations, we, the Staff, dedicate our 1948 Elkonian to the Parent-Teacher Association and Lions Club.
