JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY The freshman class of 1924 entered high school with an enrollment of ZZ students At their first class meeting they selected Wilma Blosser as their president and chose for their colors, gieen and white their flower whlte rose and their motto Break the Bud and Come to Bloom This class took quite a prominent part 1n literary work but seemed to be more athletically lnclmed as Henry Houdeshell Erul Hinkle and Harlow Gillen began their Thelr cholce for president in 1925 was hrcil Hlnkle Although we find the enrollment numbered two less than the year before this class made a great lmprove ment and we find them participating in three dlfferent kinds of organizations, musical l1terary, and physical Six of the boys of this clas took part in the high school band and many were enrolled 1n both the boys and girls glee clubs while all members took part 1n some l1terary club that was organized at the begmnlng of the term This class we find coming to bloom very early 1n school l1fe by showing great ability along athletic lmes as three of their boys, Iurcil Hinkle Henry Houdeshell and Harlow Glllen, and one girl Thelma FI'6Cl6l'lCks received thelr varsity D 1n basketball In the inter class basketball tournament these boys were NILCOIIOUS over all the rest, but the glrls were defeated by the Juniors Th1S class entered into social affairs of the school and two sophomore parties were given at the homes of Bradford Cotner and Arthur John The Junior class of 192627 elected Henry Houdeshell president and Thelma Frederlcks secretary treasurer Again we find the class xery active IH all orgamza tions such as glee clubs band orchestra and athletics Four boys and two girls I1.rc1l Hmkle Henry Houdeshell Mervyn McGinnis Mervyn Pees Thelma Fredericks and Geneva Owings won their varsity letter in basketball The popularity of the Juniors IS indicated by the positions which they hold Henry Houdeshell, president of the boys glee club Thelma Frederlcks treasurer of the girls glee club, Wilma Blosser treasurer for the lunch money and sevelal of the class were members of important commlttees As underclassmen the Juniors have always been leaders and as seniors we expect to profit by the previous experlence and accomplish great thmgs Ercil Hmkle H S Twenty three 1927 In ,X yy? ,. 1, ,gl , X ,fixn ,Q .r ' 7 ,ill Ik 'cf 4' e 'V e 1. L sr SOCIETY 'lhe social affairs of the hlgh school are as a rule held 1n the auditorium or dining room The flrst affair of the school year was a party given shortly after the openlng of school 'lhe upperclassmen initiated the Freshmen into the mysteries of high school life Court was held in the auditorium and the Freshies were trled found gullty and sentenced winners to a costume party luntertalnment and refreshments were carried out in keeplng with the Hallowe en season The Home Economics and Agriculture departments fostered a Parent Daughter Son banquet Miss Lunn and Mr hennestric of the State department were the mam speakers This was a new idea in the school and was very much of a success The Junlor Senior Christmas party, held at the country home of Fallta Gehrisch was one of the most delightful events of the year Presents were distributed from a large Christmas tree and everyone entered 1Dt0 the spirit of the occasion The Faculty, combining business and pleasure had dlnners on several occasions, followed by meetings where papers were read and school problems discussed This type of meeting helped to foster co operatlon and common interest in the school About one week after the close of the basketball season the basketball banquet was held in the dinlng room The banquet was prepared and served by the Home Economics department under the direction of Mrs Wright Speeches were given by members of the squads and faculty Letters and certificates were presented to the players and the squads presented to Mr Jameson a beautiful Conklin pen desk set After the curtain went down on the last act of Peaches , the senior cast brought out food and had a regular stage party They believe in eating as well as acting On April 5th Mr and Mrs Baumgartner entertained the Faculty at their home lhe sedate teachers forgot their dignity and entered into the stunts in regular kid fashion The custom of old was carried out when the Juniors banqueted the Seniors on May 18th The entertainment was unique ln that the program was entirely different from anything ever given before Class colors were carried out in both decorations and food Social events have been fostered by the school as it is believed that thlg form of training is a necessary part of our education We have tried to make each affair better in all respects than the previous one H S 'rhmy nine 1927 f., 1 ff.
