The lone defeat was suffered at the hands of Ruskin on Ruskin's court, the score being l8-l7. Center played Manual, a team that later placed second in the Interscholastic League in Kansas City, and was de- feated in a close battle, 20-18. The Yellow Jackets entered three tournaments and it wasn't until the last one that they hit their stride. They received Consolation in the Blue Springs Tournament, win- ning all of their games easily except the first,a two-point loss to Latour. In the Ruskin Tournament the boys lost to Raymore,22e19 after winning their first two games. Although defeated by Archie in the finals, they played good ball the whole tournament and placed second, defeating a highly touted Holt team in the semifinals. TRACK Center's injury ridden team of tracksters received set backs in their defense of their two championships this year at the Conference and the Jackson County track meets. Los- ing their candidate for high point honors, due to a leg in- jury suffered at the Jewell meet, they nevertheless enjoyh ed a mediocre season. Despite injuries Center collected a few more points at the William Jewell meet than they did at the meet last year, but was not successful in their defense of last year's trophies. Although completely outclassed in the Jackson County meet, they revived to make a close battle of it in the Conference in bowing to a strong squad of Rus- kin Eagles in the last few events. At the Warrensburg meet Center took only a handful of men, and yet garnered more points than they did with a full squad last year and came close to winning the runner-up trophy, finishing third. Cen ter completed its track season by taking four qualifiers to the State Meet at Columbia. They were Pearle Totten, David Bibens, Glenn Callies, and Damon Tumlin. As many of the exceptional athletes from other schools are graduating and Center has several good prospects, next year may see the return of Center's supremacy on the cinder paths. The track season as seen by Centor's future letter men was amply demonstrated at a triangular affair at Ruskin. Center, Raytown and Ruskin competed and although Raytown had to use Seniors to fill out their team, Center still won by a lop-sided score. Our cheer 1eaders,Dorothy Earl and Marcella Middleton, did their part willingly and skillfully. we had a few new yells this year to go with the old ones but there were times when the games were so exciting that we all could not yell any certain yell but each had her own special yell . we had five drills during the Basketball season. Our first was quite simple Qmarching around the gym and forming in squadsj but by the time we gave our last drill we had made several improvements by forming a large C.H.S. and a few new forms. The uniforms this year added to the attract- iveness of our drills. They were gold satin shirts and royal blue skirts with gold zippers down the front. The cheer leaders wore the same uniform only over their blouses they wore royal blue barrel sweaters with a Uyellow jacketn on the front. we plan to keep these same skirts and blouses next year. Our officers this year were: President--Rosemary Gallagher Vice-President--Marjorie Butts Secretary--Betty Eskew Treasury--Virginia Eskew There were thirty members of the pep squad this year. The boy's pep squad, numbering about thirty-five members, was an important factor at all basketball games this year. Not only at home games but in the enemy's camp did the boys turn out. The Senior class sincerely appreciates the hearty support of this colorful contingent and sincerely en- dorses the forming of a similar group next year. The officers of the boy's squad were as follows: President--Bob Schultz Vice-President--Leon Timms Secretary-Treasurer--Harold Turner Dean Moore and Louis Grubb were selected by the group as the cheer leaders of the 1958-39 Boy's Pep Squad.
