Ufuklawto cc Early in the school year the senior class suffered a severe loss by the sudden death of Wayne Sutton-friend, classmate, scholar, and athlete. A person of high morals and strong character, Wayne took an active part in school activities and had an avid interest in sports. He was a member of Hi-Y Club and was elected secretary this year. He also was on Student Council for two years, being elected vice-president as a senior. For four years Wayne participated in football, and he had been named sports editor of the 1962-63 yearbook. Possibly his greatest high school achievement came two weeks prior to his death when he was notified that he had placed in the top two per cent of all the students in the nation who had taken the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. 78

Other officers are Gladys Stevens, Student Council representative, Louise Adams, secretary, Rita Robinson, vice-president, Donnie Stropes, treas- ,urerg and Jeff Surface, Student Council representative. Juniors began a busy year as sponsors of Homecoming. For the second consecutive year this class took top honors in the Homecoming float competition, this year's winning slogan was Ice Cream Victory . . . Soda You. The traditional selling of concessions began with the start of the football season in early September and con- tinued throughout the basketball season. Juniors also sold concessions during other activities in the gym. Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were welcomed by a fruit cake sale. Other activities sponsored by the juniors were the Valentine Dance and a paper drive. Proceeds from these proiects were used in preparing the junior-senior prom as well as making plans for the trip to Washington and New York as seniors.
