Leading the Trojan varsity in its successful season were five talented seniors. These five seniors were headed by Randy Stewart, leading scorer, and Keaney Sloop, able floor general. Jerry Adams and Dick Williams, whose height offered additional rebound- ing and scoring punch, performed important relief duties. Dick Williams, Trojan center, outreaches his opponent on the opening tip of the Center Grove-Plainfield game. e0a.iem7es.,M,4jfmxm,a,,.d,,wf5-s Center Grove Trojans finished the 1962-63 season with a 15-8 record. After losing three of th.e first four games, the Trojan scoring machine gained momentum as the team rackd up 10 victories in the next 11 games, including another county tourney championship. Seniors led the Trojans in the statistics department. Randy Stewart led in scoring with 329 points for an impressive 14.3 average and also led the team in free throw accuracy with a .688 mark. He connected on 71 of 103 free throws attempts. Keaney Sloop finished a close second in free throws with 38 of 55 for a .685 VARSITY . . . Front Row: Jerry Windhorst, Jeff Surface, Keaney Sloop, Randy Stewart, Champ Terrell. Second Row: Coach Larry Cline, Kenny Roach, Jerry Adams, Dick Williams, Larry Vandenberg, Larry Kize r. fllu percentage. Larry Vandenberg pulled in 235 rebounds to capture the rebound trophy. Randy Stewart, who was close behind with 214 rebounds, also was named honorary team captain. Coach Larry Cline resigned as varsity coach at the end ofthe season. At the annual basketball banquet Coach Cline received a trophy in recognition of 12 years of coaching during which he compiled an im- pressive record. During his four years at Center Grove the Trojans won a sectional crown and three county championships. DEFENSIVE MANEUVER . . . WHOOPING lT UP . . 'I963 Champs celebrate their second consecutive county crown. TOURNEY CAPTAINS - - - RGf1dY 518- wart and Keaney Sloop accept the cham- pionship trophy from Custer Baker, superintendent of county schools. Ufwjeuw em em, am AW swim eww Center Grove's fighting Trojans defeated the Union Ramblers in a 69-64 overtime to capture the county championship for the third time in the last four years. To advance to the final game the Trojans subdued the Edinburg Lancers 59-39 and the Greenwood Wood- men 53-51. The Troians overcame the Woodmen in the semi-final round, as Randy Stewart hit a field goal with l.ess than 10 seconds remaining in the game. Following tradition students were released the following Monday after a pep session. The team attended a movie in Indianapolis and dined at the Teepee. Rival Greenwood dashed the Troians' hopes of adding the sectional crown to the county victory. ln the semi-final game the Woodmen edged Center Grove 75-7l in a heartbreaking overtime decision. The Troians had advanced to the second round by downing Clark 59-43. VICTORY SMILE . . . Coach Cline All TIED UP . . .
