. Tiaaada, fllliletic Emu 6600 Band Under the direction of Mr. Van Veld the band increased its marching and concert activities this year. Performing at football games and playing at pep sessions were two of the maior duties of the band. ln cooperation with the chorus the band presented its first Christmas Concert, to a capacity crowd. Center Grove's band also played host for the Johnson County Band Festival in April. The marching Trojans participated in the State Fair Parade and attended the Purdue and Butler High School Band Days. They were also first place winners of the Old Settler's Day Parade at Greenwood. The newly organized dance band, composed of members of the concert band, had an active year. This group performed at the annual Christmas party and at the band-sponsored sock hop. The pep band, consisting of 15 bandmen, appeared at the home basketball games. Don Stropes and Barbara Lawrence brought recog- nition to Center Grove by receiving first place ratings in the State Solo and Ensemble Contest. They partici- pated in state competition after winning firsts in the district contest. Others who participated in the district contest were, Pat Grimm, who received a first place rating, and Rick Daniel, Jackie Meyer, Allen Bennis, and Danny Moore, who earned second place in their divisions. The Basketball Belles, a drill team composed of iunior and senior girls, performed at five of the home basketball games. This group, which was organized in the fall by Mr. Van Veld, was accompanied by the pep band. M2131 'BEIGE r' BASKETBALL BELLES . . . Patsy Pike, Beverly Butler, Kathee Williams, Sharon Sears, Sharon Van Dyke, Jane Sodrel, Sharon Oathout, Louise Adams, Lila Sutton, Vicki Cornelius, Jackie Meyer, Judy West, Sandy Adams, Pam Bunch, and Joyce Smith. 28
