Mrs. Davis, Mr. Bunton, and Mr. Clements, physical education instructors, organized an .extensive program this year by introducing fitness and skill tests. To com- plete this course successfully, it was necessary to pass these tests which measure the students' abilities in different areas of physical education. The range of activities in the boys' classes included I'LL GET IT . . . says Ronnie Hughes as he and Danny Riley struggle for possession of the stick in Mr. Clements' class. calisthentics, tumbling, basketball, hand-to-hand combat, softball, and mushball. Girls participated in the less strenuous games of softball, volleyball, basketball, using girls' rules, bacl- minton, and kickball, as well as calisthentics and tumbling. 25

mm :im e0m,, sap www Driver's education is offered for pupils who want to learn how to handle a car properly. Besides learn- ing safe driving techniques, students are taught traffic laws and the correct maintenance of cars. Several types of equipment are employed in teaching this course. Learning the reaction speed under certain conditions is accomplished through the use of QUIT STALLING . . . Mr. Porter and Suzan Hussung accuse Tanya Dickey of not want- ing to change a tire on the driver's educa- tion car while Tom Gaddy looks on. a magnetic board. Lectures and movies help the pupils understand the mechanism of the car. During the latter part of the semester pupils put their knowledge to work by actually getting behind the wheel. Dual controls are used in case an emegency should arise. Mr. Cline and Mr. Porter are the instructors. STOP . . .
