-qv-nllrv nt- V I if V class hlSlCOl2 In the fall of 1945, the following seniors of 1957 entered the halls of Center Grove for the first time: Suzy Stewart, Joyce Core, Sandy Day, Billie Duke,Sue Doty,Kay Kiphart, Bob Wise, Fred Nuffer. Beverly Boltz, Rushh Reynolds, Ruby Demaree, and Chestora Royston. The teacher who started them on the road to success was Mrs. Ruth Cook. During the next six years the following students entered our class: Eleanor DeMott, Lynda Sells, Janice Hawkins, Ray Stewart, Phyllis Clearwater, J ack Ramsey, Margie Ross, Norman Ford, Roy Swartz, Robert King, Howard Peters, Phil Plummer, Jean Lister,J' im Dresslar, Oren Hyatt, Lee Wolverton. Larry Pearcy, Bill Meek, Marcia Whitaker, J enile Weddle, Burnadine See, and Jackie Strouse. After having six successful years, we were looking forward to entering junior high and changing classes. Our junior highyears were fun but still we couldn't wait to enter high school. As Freshmen we were looking forward with some misgivings to being initiated by the different organ- izations. New members who were wondering just what was going to happen were Lee Power, Jean Brewer, Larry Gates. Dottie Clouse, Carol Duke, and Betty Malott. Several of the boys went out for basketball. Margie Ross, Lynda Sells, and Nancy Morton did a good job as cheerleaders. Although we were working under the handicap brought on by the school burning down, we had a very enjoyable time. Our sponsor was Mr. James Rosenstihl. We were very excited our sophomore year when we moved into the new building. Those who entered during the year were Don Blackwell, Nancy Day, Sue Carpenter, Shirley McCormick, Barbara Ogle, and Kay Smithey. Our class was honored that year when Lynda Sells was elected queen of the Snow Dance, and Kay Kiphart was chosen rnajorette. The class officers were: Marcia Whitaker, Presidentg Phil Plummer, Vice-Presidentg Betty Malott, Secretary-Treasurerg and Kay Kiphart, Student Council. Our sponsors were Mrs. Mary Fisher and Mr. Johnny Male. The busiest year in our high school career was our junior year. We worked very hard selling con- cessions to make money for a prom and trip to Washington, D,C, The prom, which was held in the Marble Room of the Marott Hotel, was the big social event of the year. Everyone who attended enjoyed it a great deal. The class officers were: Kay Kiphart, President, Joyce Core, Vice-Presidentg Sue Doty, Secretary: Lynda Sells, Treasurer, and Phyllis Clearwater, Student Council We were well represented in sports with Larry Pearcy on the basketball team, while Fred Nuffer. Don Blackwell, Jim Dresslar, Bob King, Lee Power, and Jack Ramsey played football. Sandy Day and Joyce Core were elected cheerleaders. The people who helped us through the year were our sponsors, Mrs, Vera Fulmer, and Mr. Marvin Hawkins. We went into our senior year looking forward to being the best of all classes past, present, and future. Several students received honors during the year. Sandy Day and Joyce Core were elected cheer- leaders, Kay Kiphart was chosen majorette leader, Phyllis Clearwater and Don Blackwell were king and queen of the Holly Dance at Christmastime, and the trophy for making the first touchdown in football was awarded to Don Blackwell. Our trip to Washington, D,C. was one of the highlights of the year. especially when we found that we were the first class to make the trip by train. Russell Martin was the only addition we had during the year. The class play, under the direction of Mrs. Claire Gaddy, was hard work, but it was worth the effort, when it turned out to be a big success. Our senior sponsors were Mrs. Vera Fulmer and Mr. Marvin Hawkins, BABY PICTURES: 1. Billie Duke 2. Sue Carpenter 3. Betty Malott 4. Margie Ross 5. Kay Kiphart 6. Joyce Core 7. Bob King 8.
