On September 2, 1955, Marvin Hawkins, former Hanover College football star and newhead football coach at Center Grove issued acall for football practice. Nearly twelve years had elapsed since fans from Center Grove had seen their boys in football gear. Forty-one candidates reported for the first drill, three week later, thirty-five were issued complete uniforms. Since this was the first eleven-man squad for Center Grove High School, and the team con- sisted of under-classmen, we refrained from scheduling outside competition. Most of the season was spent on acquainting the boys with rules and learning the basic fundamentals. Several inter- squad contests were held and the team looked promising for the coming year. The Trojans have scheduled Mooresville, Greenwood, Edinburgh, Westfield, and J asonville for the 1956 season. Mel Vander-meer and John Friedersdorf assisted in handling the line.
