EEZEZMEEH iii? 5, ni? VARSITY BASEBALL: Dzsappvzufmeuf plagues Calm The varsity baseball team fought every- thing from the Weather, to the scrapping of victories towards the end of the season, to make their Win loss record respectable. Led by Coach Daggett, the team made a last chance rally in the last 3rd of the season. In the beginning of the year hopes Were high and division titles rang in the back of the player's minds. With the playing of the first ten games those hopes all but disap- peared, as the diamond men dropped their first 10 contests. Hopes of a comeback came with their first win, a 1 to 0 shutout over last year's state AAA Champion Lakenridge. Dickerson pitched the win and also managed the only hit for the Eagles. Thlngs began to get brlghter as the Eagles were 1n all the next 6 games but unfortunately lost them 1n the later mmngs Then everythmg fell 1nto place as they beat Lake Oswego l2 to 7 Jumpmg out to a qulck 3 to nothing lead the Eagles thought they had the game wraped up, but Lake Oswego fought the1r way back to take a short llved 4 to 3 lead In the rernammg mnlngs C H S scored 9 qulck runs and was able to stymle a last 1nn1ng rally by The Eagles were able to w1n 4 out of the1r last f1V6 games, and in domg that spoiled I-Iood River and Gresham s chance to wm the league t1tle The other two teams they beat were highly rated Rex Putnam and Reynolds, endmg the season on a win n1ng note Everybody played a part in bu1ld1ng the team, but speclal note should go to Steve I-Iettum and B J Dickerson for bemg selected to play 1n the Wilco league all star game Lake Oswego to win 12 to 7. 1 Daryl Heacock does a nose dive into a second base, and comes up safe. 2. Shortstop Bret Mueller charges a slow roller Wlth Rich Core helping in the distance. 3. Greg Kirchem rolls his wrist and connects. 4 Steve Hettum checks out what's going on at first base, after just scoring a run.
