'f VARSlTYiTRAfCK pikers take second in district: Keiper, Stone 81 Gildow to State. The boy's track team suffered its first duel meet loss in three years to Putnam to finish second in duel meet stand- ings. The Eagle thinclads placed at the Bend Invitational, Wilco Relays and the Wilco District meet. They took third in the Centennial Invitational also. Centennial sent three men to the state meet that was held in Eugene at the Uni- versity of Oregon june 1-2. Paul Keiper earned a spot in the 880 with his second place. junior john Gildow secured his spot with a second in the long jump. Rob Stone was district two-mile champ for the second year in a row. He broke his own district meet record, running 9:31. Several individuals starred for the Eagles during the season. Team captain Paul Keiper set a school record in the mile run at 4:20.6. He adds this to his three other class mile records. Raye Williams and Mark Porterfield had a battle the entire year in the triple jump, an event that is held in only a few leagues in the state. Raye leaped 44'1 to Mark's 43 lV2 . Dale Danielson scored many impor- tant points in the two hurdle races.
