' SWIMMING L oach McPherson looks to the future, times improve vastly. This year the boys team came up with a 2 win, 6 loss record, but Coach Don Mc- Pherson says that the '72 swim season was a very big success even though the boys didn't have many wins. Almost every boy on the team vastly improved their indi- vidual times. Whenever the team had a little pres- sure on them they got psyched, and didn't get their best times. When they came up against a weaker team, their times went down. McPherson says When we needed good swims we couldn't get Paul Reiwer concentrates and waits for silence before his dive. . . them. McPherson will be losing only 2 grad- uating senior boys next year, so next year looks very promising. Returning will be McPhersons 2 power swimmers, Von Summers, junior and Dave Sprenger, Sophomore. This year the team captain was Dave Geurts, who added a little spirit to the team. Dave will be graduating. At district the relay team consisting of Dan Lodwig, Dave Geurts, Dave Sprenger, and Von Summers, took third place. He starts his dive while the crowd looks on. . . --- -.ge . SWIMMING 2 r 2 6 a 6 ext year's season in the winter makes for more practice time. The girls, like the boys, didn't win many meets but did improve their times. The girls swam hard this year and came up with 3 wins. Coach Don McPherson was satisfied with what times they got by the end of the season. One of McPhersons big keys to a more successful season is to get into the water earlier than 2 or 3 weeks before the first meet. Next year's season will be during the winter instead of fall, so swimmers will have 3 more months in the water be- fore the season. . Freshmen, Debbie McCord was the only girl to go to state this year. Although her first attempt for a state win was un- successful, Coach McPherson feels as- sured, she will do well next year with the experience. The girls team will lose some very strong swimmers due to graduation, but Coach McPerson hopes to get some new blood from the lower ranks. joel Summers lead the team in spirit and she was always the one to collect money when needed. Coach McPherson said that out of the whole team that joel was probably the most improved swim- mer for the 1972 season. Debbie McCord was voted most outstanding swimmer for the year. g -1 'ge A1 ' 'T 1 T il at tis. 1 v 51: 'A e t 1' it g wt '- 1 1 '-Qui J-XT tl?
