VARSITY CR OSS COUNTRY arriers capture Wilco crown and earn third place in the state meet. A third place state meet finish capped off another fine varsity cross country season. The Eagles had little trouble with their Wilco League foes in dual and tri- meet action. An inspired Central Catholic Ram squadcaptured Centennial's Invitational in a meet where all records were shat- tered, The course record alone was broken by 30 seconds and Paul Keiper ran 12:03 for a new school record. Centennial traveled to the district meet where they had no trouble dis- posing of their league rivals. The squad posted a low score of 42, leaving second place Lakeridge far behind with 63 This qualified the Eagles for the state meet, where they had finished in at least the top four for the preceeding three years. A gruelling 2.5 mile course was set up at Lane Community College in Eu- gene. South Eugene ran the strongest team race in the state's history-they scored a low total of 34 points. Centennial was led across the line by Rob Stone's 15th place finish. Paul Kei- per placed 32nd, Norm Hassler was 33rd, Roger Yarbrough was 38th and Alan Bauch rounded out the top five in 41st place. Gregg Eschright and Dale Rennie also competed on the third place team, placing 47th and 93rd, respectively. Eagle harriers take the line in their first home meet with Reynolds and Lae Oswego. iv AND FROSHICROSS COUNTRY he I. V. team shows its strength placing second in district. The jayvee cross country team has usually been a weak link between two strong ones. This year was a pleasing exception as the junior Eagles went un- defeated in the Wilco League dual meet competition. Their strength was enhanced in the district meet with the addition of part- time varsity runners Steve Snelling and Frank Soots. Another fine jayvee runner was Mark Goin. He ran No.1 nearly all year long when Snelling and Soots were on varsity. With their one-two finish, Snelling and Goin led thej. V. 's to a secondplace finish in district.
