Charles lepsen David Pollock G0 EA6lf9 Loren Remane Social Studies: City Used As a Classroom, Drug Film Stuns Students. gf .Z ,N -n The Social Studies depart- ment deviated from the tra- ditional prescribed courses to a number of elective courses. In most cases, the previous idea of reading from text books was forgotten. The usual classroom arrangement was dropped, and at times, no room was used at all. The Urban Crisis classes set up self-guided city tours. This provided students with a first hand view of problems which a city encounters. Law In American Society Laurin Hedrick classes arranged mock trials, some of which were super- vised by law students from Northwest School of Law. From this, students exper- ienced the problems and ad- vantages of today's systems. An aid introduced into all classes was a one-period drug education film. The film, which delt with hard-drug users, made a few people sick to their stomach, but it conveyed a strong point on a vital issue. ACADEMICS 737
