Business: Accountants Co on Their Owng Typists Create Cookbook Many students were en- rolled in business classes. There were four different clusters in which a person could enroll such as secre- tarial, clerical, marketing and accounting. In Mr. Hempel's account- ing class, students were do- ing their own thing. Indi- vidualized lnstruction was the new look in accounting. The students worked at their own pace, teaching them- selves with the teacher an- swering any questions. Students in marketing and salesmanship sold advertis- ing for the Centhiscan and Talon. ln Mrs. Ballard's model office, the girls learned how to keep books for various organizations such as Rock- wood PTA and Oregon Guid- ance Association. The girls also created a cookbook called Cookie Caper . The Student Store was kept busy with students running in and out buy- ing forgotten items. Q4 . Emphasizing student par- ticipation, the English De- partment again geared its course selection into five major areas: grammar, writ- ing, literature, listening, and mass media. Concentrating on making English live, in- structors programmed class- es relating contemporary interests. Throughout the year, stu- dents focused on a broad study scope encompassing the basic English curriculum as well as the other elective courses offered. These stud- ies enable the student to acheive a more rounded education in English, thus bridging the student's com- munication gap. Some of the most enjoyed classes were Shakespeare, where students presented a fun serious playfin full attire, Pop Lyrics, with jiv- ing sounds replacing the everyday sound of school, and War Literature, as wars were relived in victories and tragedies. 1: Ku , 4-ff f'f aff Victor Kaufmann -Lift 2 fl X, vi, fi? 7, it W L it , F Elyse Nemes ACADEMICS 729
