Today they serve as the official hosts and hostesses of the college, conducting campus tours, serving at teas and luncheons and of course collecting CP cards. The Maroon Jackets are selected on the basis of leadership and scholarship. Standing, L-R: Keith Dollahite, Susan Snyder, Melinda Love, John Purdy. Seated: Sarah Doss, Jan Carpenter. 126 • Honors And Organizations ALPHA EPSILON DELTA It ' s not enough that you should understand about applied science in order that you may in- crease man ' s blessings. Concern for man himself and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors - in order that the creations of our mind shall be a blessing and not a curse to mankind. Never forget this in the midst of your diagrams and equations. Albert Einstein L-R: Dr. Bradley McPherson, Pam McPherson (Treas.), Stuart Eason (Historian), Susan Webb (Sec), Kurt Knowles, Felicia Sankey (V.P.), John Holcomb (Pres.), Jim Frantz. The Centenary Chapter of AED, the national honorary pre-medical fraternity, upholds a fine tradition of excellence. Members are selected on the basis of academic performance (3.0 GPA in both the sciences and ov erall), character, general ability, and personal traits befitting a physician. Activities include providing speakers on pertinent aspects of medicine, maintaining a functional library of study material and medical school catalogs, and sponsoring Pre-Med Weekend for high school students. Alpha Epsilon Delta is proud of its 26 years of encouraging pre-medical excellence at Centenary. Guest lecturer. Dr. Emil Kotcher, of LSU Medical Center spoke on biomedical ethics. The members take trips to scientific meetings, judge science fair projects, and invite speakers to learn of new developments in the field. This has been a tradition for years. In 1942 for instance, in light of the role that chemistry was playing in the WW II defense program, experts in various fields of national defense spoke on chemistry as it related to the war. The training of a new radio announcer takes a lot of patience on the part of the trainer and the trainee. In one 3-hour period, the trainer aquaints the new announcer with all the technical aspects. He must know how to cue up records and carts, bring in the network news, mix two songs, fill out a program log and modulate his voice over the air. Obviously a great deal of work and concentration goes into being an announcer, in addition to it being a great deal of fun. 138 • Honors And Organizations PEGASUS Seated, l-r: Stephanie Lynch, Stuart Harville, Alan Irvine, Standing: Kris Hand. I do my work well, I ' m a good father. I ' m a good husband. That ' s all very well. But you must do something more. Seek always to do some good somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to make his own self more noble and to realize his own true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. Even if it ' s a little thing, do something for those who have need of help, something for which you get no pay, but the privelege of doing it. -Albert Schweitzer Honors And Organizations • 145 RIVERTOWN PLAYERS Perhaps without knowing it, I have stumbled on a definition of art in the theatre: all art in the theatre should be, not descriptive, but evocative, Robert Edmond Jones The Dramatic Imagination Clockwise from left: Director Robert R.
