As the new president of Centenary College, Dr. Jack Stauffer Wilkes has behind him a record of outstanding achievements in the areas of religion, academics, and politics. Before coming to this college Dr. Wilkes was an Oklahoma Methodist min- ister, president of Oklahoma City University, and mayor of Oklahoma City. Born in Honey Grove, Texas, the president graduated from Gurdon High School, Gurdon, Arkansas, received his A.B. from Hendrix College, B.D. degree from Southern Methodist University, and completed graduate work at the University of Denver, Northwestern University, and Union Theological Sem- inary. Dr. Wilkes holds a D.D. from Oklahoma City University and an LL.D from McMurray College. Dr. Jack Wilkes assumed his office at Centenary College on June 1, 1964. Dr. Wilkes ' s talks in chapel are humorous as well as informative. In addition to his duties on the campus, the president is often required to speak before alumni, civic, and student groups.
