The marksmanship ability of these men kept Centenary in the above-average category for college R.O.T.C. competition. Participation in army meets, Shreveport Municipal League, and mail matches with other R.O.T.C. units throughout the United States provided necessary competitio n. In all of these three cate- gories, the members proved to be formidable marks- men and true representatives of Centenary ' s well- known ability and sportsmanship. The season was culminated by a trip which took the rifle team to El Paso, Texas. ' Pe 46i tf IRifteA The Centurion Rifles became the first organized drill team at Centenary College. After a semester of hard work they w,ere accepted into the National Mili- tary Society of Pershing Rifles. The drill team traveled to Marshall, Texas; Natchi- toches, Louisiana; and Mobile, Alabama. The festi- vals participated in were the Louisiana State Fair, Dogwood Festival, and Holiday in Dixie. The faculty advisor for the unit is Captain Timothy Higgins. Playing for the first time a major college schedule they finished with 16 wins and 8 losses, losing only two home games. They were hampered throughout the year with injuries not only to the players, but Coach Mooty also. This was their first year in the new Hirsch Memorial Youth Building. The GENTS got off to a good start by downing the AGGIES from Texas A M; placed second in the LIT and by knocking off several highly ranked colleges in the closing season were enabled to receive a bid to play in the NCAA college-division tournament, thus climaxing a great season of roundball.
