Th following officers were then elected to serve the chapter for th ensuing ve r president, Pat Robinson, vice pr sident, Bill Marbut, secretarv, Bill Redmon, tr a surer, Gene Talbert, reporter, Leon Rob rts, sentlncl, dlmer Parks The members start d the year by doing general shop work. They remodled the FFA shop and built new library shelves. Le ving the shop, the boys began preparing for the Judging conte ts at the St te Fair. Sev ral classes f fat stock lH th community were judg d to test the abillty of each memb r A team composed of Leon Roberts, Bob Laffertv, Johnny Hooper, Gene Talbert, D n Zachary and Pat Robinson was chosen to represent the chapter in this ev nt Th y r nked in th top half of th state contest nts The l st three ma1t1oned above returned to compete lH the contests t the sprlng show Two other trlps which highllgntfd this year's actlviti s were to Cameron Colleve Field Day and the scholastic meet at Oklahoma A k M The members have ei ht sows, thirte n h ad of dairy br eding stock, four head for b f breeding and four head of be f f ttealng, making a total of twenty nlnf head of livestock owned bv memb rs of the department For their fi ld crop enterpri es, the boys w1ll h ve forty five acres of pe nuts, fortv of cotton, forty of feed, nd thlrty five of watermelons ight members fre carrying out pasture improvement programs and five have orchards th t thev pl n to improve All memb rs who live on farms plan to carry out an extensive soil lmprovlng program As a means of f1n ncing the chapter, the members sold chances on a steer. With thls mon y a registered Duroc gllt was purchased for the purpose of introducing better swine breedlnv in the chapter The Home no girls prepared and served a delicious steak dinner for the members Th s proved to be a very successful soclal event and the boys hope this will be an annual ev nt Through the cooperatlon of our parents, superinten dent, and townspeople, the first vear of this chapter has been a successful one We hope, that as we grow older, we will be an organizatlon at which you may point with pride.
