The audience unlrnowingly was wiTnessing The dress rehearsal of The House of Terror . However, when Laura Crowder fainTed aTTer being warned by a mysTerious voice To leave The casT or suffer The consequences, Two direcTors, Miss Fielding and Miss Jefferies, arose from The audience: iT became known ThaT iT was d play wiThin a plays Miss Fielding, Thinking ThaT iT was a prank oT some fun-loving member of The casT, ordered The young Thesppians To go on wiTh The rehearsal. They were all parTicularly eager To give an excellenf performance because Jack Howard, The auThor of The play, was To be presenT. From ThaT poinT on The play was a whirlwind oT exciTemenT. A lcidnapping Toolc place, a murder was almosT commiTTed, and The members of The casT were Thrown inTo a sTaTe bordering on panic when iT was discovered ThaT someone was ouT To ruin Their performance. The comedy elemenT crepT inTo every siTuaTion and relieved The suspense, and The final denouemenT was The capTure of an escaped maniac.
