561110 ffzsfzfry Amud numerous actuvutues and plans for the future I fund myself thunkung of the past In retrospect a few happenungs stand out un my mund as really bug moments for the class of 1952 Furst of all I remember how small we were twelve years ago small un body lumuted un experuence but full of hugh hopes for the future We were only sux years old and ready to begun school lufe I ll never forget how embarrassed we were un the furst grade when our parents came to vusut the class and we were asked to defune a hard word luke errand I But our parents were very proud of us when we entered hugh furst and began to wrute sentences From there we were led unto the second grade Here we sat on luttle boxes to read and we soon learned that uf you dudnt hude your recess someone mught get hungry before the bell rang We trued to blame ut on the rats of course but the teacher soon convunced us that no rat grew that bug Leavung our beloved Muss Lucy we trupped up the staurs to the thurd grade That year we were measured and weughed often Do you remember how surpused we were to fund that Bully Joe Banks was becomung such a bug boy? Those terruble columns of fugures to add were a nughtmare and we looked forward to gettung through wuth them so you can umagune how suck we were to see them agaun un the fourth grade We vuondered uf they went on for ever From Muss Sarah we learned the meanung of patruotuc We had quute a tume learnung the Natuonal Anthem and fought temptatuon every day un order to buy a defense stamp wuth our precuous dumes We were terrubly excuted about the fure drulls especually because we werent allowed to take our lunches wuth us What uf the buuldung should really be on fure'P Wed starve to death' One of the really bug moments came when we left grammar school and began a new adventure .XX Junuor Hugh' The words chulled and hrulled us There were so many new and dufferent thungs to become accustomed to We no longer had one teacher but several Why we were even goung to have a man to teach us I remember that hus name was Charlue In the suxth grade Dee Gul more moved back to Cedartown and funushed breakung all the gurls hearts Ralph Raunwater uouned us and one of the teachers nearly left her professuon because of hus antucs In short order most of us were promoted to the seventh grade Thus was our last year un Junuor Hugh and we made the most of ut Mrs Paul gave us num erous partues and we had so many plays un the Englush classes that we began to feel luke profes suonals Those were the good old days when the truest test of a gurls popularuty was the number of Valentunes she receuved How we loved and feared those Valentunesl And then at long last we realuzed that we were ready for the buggest of all adventures HIGH SCHOOL We had heard about the unutuatuon whuch was beung planned for us and we were nearly scared to death lmagune our reluef to fund out that ut concerned the boys more than ut did the gurls From our pount of vuew ut wasnt bad at all As for the boys well they needed ut' After regus tratuon thungs began to shape up Thus was the furst year of mud term promotuons and we soon realuzed that the ugluest word un the Englush lan guage us examunatuon Some of us survuved and others had to be revuved Many of us took part un the varuous actuvutues that hugh school offered It was hard at furst to keep those benches warm but we managed to do a credutable uob Our motto soon became When a Freshman act luke a Freshman Contunued on page 28 Q Q n f ' 1 11 - 11 . 1 . - 11 11 - 1 - 1 1 . . , . 1 1 . 1 . 1 ' 11 11 11 - . 11 I 1 . . , .
