I am becoming accustomed to the hurtling flight of this small moon. Finally. My present quarters consist of a small spherical room full of intricate instruments. Ibreathe eat and drink through tubes. Now I am fighting to preserve my sanity though I really don t know why I don t know how long it has been since I was exiled from earth and sentenced to ride Sputnik 144 until death. I have no record of time no calendar no clock My crime was talking slight resemblance to my old high school history teacher I had finally convinced him I was as fine a Communist as any. fActually I was an agent for the FBD. I was feeling rather proud of myself when he surprised me by asking Who do you think will win the pennant in the American League? I was caught off guard and before Ihad realized what I was saying Isaid Yan- kee! He pointed an accusing finger at me and said Yankee! lwas tried and convicted right there and shot into space the next day I7 Now the only means I have to fend off madness 1S a small telev1s1on screen The Russ1ans don t real1ze lt but my 1ngen1ous bra1n has dev1sed a way to p1ck up Amer1can TV broadcasts w1thout h1nder1ng Sov1et recept1on of my Sputmk The program I am watch1ng r1ght now IS Th1s lS a L1fe'P It seldom appeals to me but all the other channels have Westerns After such a long t1me of watchmg TV 1ncessantly Westerns get monotonous Walt what 1S thlS7 The l1fe belng por trayed now 13 one of my old schoolmates' The famous actress Charlene Jones' She has won ten Oscars f1fteen Emm1es and f1ve husbands' Wow' Oh they are br1ng1ng 1n some of Charlene s old frlends Hey I know them That s Roger Steele' The Master of ceremon1es tlt s Max Kendrlckl says that Roger IS now one of the most prom1nent Judges 1n San Franc1sco He pres1ded over the famous M1ller vs the State of Cal1forn1a case I remember that Delbert found a flaw 1n the State Const1tut1on that enabled lawyers to operate a profltable racket He had every lawyer 1n the State agamst h1m but he managed to conv1nce the Jury so he won the case Del always was a good talker Now back to the program I msure that man over 1n the corner 1S Dave Logue Max IS say1ng that Dave 1S st1ll m1lk1ng cows back 1n good old Cedaredge He has h1s own place now and IS very consc1ent1ous about staymg home so he can be sure and get h1s cows m1lked every morn1ng That g1rl over there must be Lo1s Adams She has had a wonderful career as a fash1on model 1n New York She 1S wearlng the absolute latest the box' lt s a rev1val of the chemlse of several years back' She looks pOS1t1Ve1y stunn1ng' And there s the woman des1gner who brought the sack FOOTBALL fn-Hg 'Ur il Q COACH JACK KEHMEIER COACH BILL CHARLESWORTH CUB FOOTBALL As Cedaredge opened their football season this year the Cubs were definitely looking forward to a better season than usual W1th a 26 man squad despite the temporary loss of 190 pound tackle Charles Hawkins due to an appendectomy the team was very optimistic Opening against the Class A Olathe Pirates the Cubs soon fell behind and were on the short end ofa 12 0 score at halftime Bouncing back in the third quarter to score a touchdown ending a 55 yard drive they made the score 12 7 However the Pirates scored again in the third quarter to make the final score 19 7 Still looking for the first victory the Cubs came up against the Grand Junc tion Junior varsity The Little Bears opened the game with three touchdowns in the first quarter They were never in trouble and they went on to win the game easily 33 20 With a win under their belts the Cubs next came up against the Delta Junior vars1ty Though the Delta team was strengthened with several varsity members Cedaredge had no trouble defeating them 40 0 Coaches Charlesworth and Kehme1er used this opportunity to give the reserves needed experience W1th spirits aroused by Homecoming the Cubs went out against the Plateau Valley Cowboys to play their best for the homecoming crowd The Cubs Jumped ahead as Mike Mills ran 43 yards fora touchdown The whole backfield contributed to the score and chalked up a total of 311 yards against 153 as the Cubs went on to win 30 6 After winning their first conference game the Cedaredge crew were set to make a good showing against their next conference opponent and traditional rival Hotchkiss The game started as an offensive battle First Hotchkiss scored then Cedaredge The Cubs scored from an end run by Del Miller followed by a l1ne smash by Bruce Perotti to add the extra point and make the score 7 7 Hotchkiss scored again and failed to make the extra point The Cubs scored again on an end run There was afumble on the extra point to t1e the score at 13 13 The second half turned into a defensive struggle Both teams threatened but could not score The score ended tied 13 13 Playing their first game away from home the Cubs met Palisade for their homecoming and the Class B title The Bulldogs scored first on a line smash. Not to be outdone the Cubs came back and scored on a pass from Miller to Gene MacAdams. Palisade scored again this time on a pass The Cubs again came back to score making it 13-12 at the half Palisade s favor 22 Jack Morris Manager Neither team scored in the third quarter. In the last quarter things happened. Palisade finished a 82 yard drive with a touchdown. The Cubs then scored on a pass from Miller to MacAdams. The extra point failed. The score stood 18-19 with the Cubs on the wrong end. The Cubs started another drive. Driving themselves to the eight yard line, the Cubs went into a spread formation to pass. Ken McGechie intercepted Mike Mill's pass and ran 96 yards for a touchdown to put Palisade easily ahead in the last seconds of the game. The score ended 26-18 in what was a near upset. Palisade went on to take Class B State Runner-up. With a bitter defeat behind them the Cubs journied to Paonia. Playing a good game, the Cubs worked up a 12-6 lead at the end of the first half. The secondhalf turned out to be a different story. The Cubs team, having several linemen injured, didn't have the depth needed to hold the lead and the final score ended 20-12. Cedaredge's last two games were cancelled. The game with Hotchkiss was cancelled because of the flu epidemic and Telluride cancelled theirs to enter into the state play-off. ,,,.2..lw ca' ,aww Dickie Kendrick Bradley Peterson Max K9f1d1'1Ck '5wnK7f 3' Ralph Linscott Glenn Loucks Roger Steele 23 Je rry Conne r Manage r ii' mv? rw.
