The first building, consnucted of stone, was erected on the knoll where the high school now stands in 1887. The first class to graduate was in 1896. Mrs. Stella Walker is the only living member in Cedar Vale who graduated with that class. Mrs. Morton, and Mr. and Mrs. Cox we wish to thank for most of this information. Mrs. Morton would have graduated with the class had not circumstances prevented it. The first Board of Education was Neal Shaver, W, L. Christie, and W, M, Jones. The high school was on the third floor and the grade school had the lower two floors. Some of the early teachers were: Alice Dickey, Robert Glenn, J. R. Marsh, H, R, Atwater, A, M, Ross, Mill Evans, C, Brinkerhoff, Irwin Stimmel, G, A, Brown N. A. Baker, Will McKee, Laura Six, Tom Pore, and May Foster. The first commencement program was Friday evening, April 27, 1906, at the Kenneson Opera House, which was located in the Kenneson Building where the Masonic building is now.
